PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang shared an awkward moment with DAP's most prominent face Lim Kit Siang when the duo met around noon in Kundasang, Sabah today.
The meeting comes a day after Abdul Hadi's lengthy vitriolic assault against allies DAP and PKR during his winding up speech at the PAS muktamar.
According to eye-witnesses, Lim was about to leave Kinabalu Park when Abdul Hadi and his entourage arrived in a black 4WD vehicle.
Lim then approached Abdul Hadi and the duo shook hands.
"Not a word was exchanged between the two," said Sabah DAP political education director Ginger Phoong, when contacted.
Following this, the duo parted ways. Abdul Hadi continued his tour of the area while Lim left, having arrived much earlier.
"It was cordial, but awkward," said Phoong, when asked to describe the atmosphere at the time.
During his hour long speech yesterday, Abdul Hadi had criticised Lim for his speech in Kota Bharu on May 10, which was against Kelantan's decision to implement hudud law in Kelantan.
Abdul Hadi also accused DAP and PKR of attacking PAS, only to later claim that they were the victims.
During the muktamar, PAS also adopted a resolution , without any debate, to cut ties with DAP. Abdul Hadi later claimed that Pakatan Rakyat was still intact.
The resolution originated from the PAS ulama wing, whose information chief Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali had clarified that the motion was to urge the PAS central committee and syura council to cut ties with DAP, but the final decision rests with these two bodies.
Hadi bumps into DPM
Moments after parting ways with Lim, Abdul Hadi and his entourage were spotted together with Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and several other BN leaders.
According to Star Online , all the VIPs were in the Ligawu Park building, but were forced to evacuate following tremors.
State tourism, culture and environment minister Masidi Manjun and Ranau OCPD deputy superintendent Farhan Lee Abdullah immediately stopped their briefing as Muhyiddin's bodyguards ushered him out of the building.
Together with him were Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman, Deputy Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan and Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
The briefing continued at the rear of the double storey concrete building under the midday sun for about 30 minutes.
Small world
According to The Malaysian Insider, Muhyiddin's entourage said the meeting between Muhyiddin and Abdul Hadi was "purely coincidental".
Later Muhyiddin told the media that special assistance from the federal and Sabah government would be given to the Malaysian victims of the earthquake.
He said families of the dead victims would each receive RM10,000 while those injured would be given RM2,000 each.
Muhyiddin said those who stranded on the mountain and traumatised during the experience would receive RM1,000 each.
The 6.0 Richter scale earthquake on Friday has already claimed 17 lives, all of them climbers, who were caught in landslides and rockfalls, while scaling the highest peak in Southeast Asia when the earthquake struck.
