Rural and Regional Development Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal has dismissed suggestions that the entire cabinet is collectively responsible over 1MDB's problems.
Shafie said ministers have fulfilled their obligations by actively raising questions on 1MDB during cabinet meetings.
Thus, he said it would be unfair to claim that cabinet was being irresponsible if 1MDB are not forthcoming on certain issues in public.
"We are responsible cabinet members. That's why we asked the questions... We want to know (as well)," Shafie told reporters after a function to present awards for top performing ministry staff in Putrajaya.
He added that cabinet too are not clear on certain issues regarding the company.
"We can't be blamed for something we are not clear on," he added.
Shafie said this when asked to respond to former finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah who said that the entire cabinet should be held responsible for 1MDB's problems.
Hands off GST monies, 1MDB told
Tengku Razaleigh said that ignorance was not an excuse for the ministers, who should have sought clarification on 1MDB's problems.
Former de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim also raised this, asking why ministers have not resigned over the matter .
Shafie said when issues regarding 1MDB were raised by cabinet, it was not an attempt to pin the blame on anyone, but an attempt to seek clarity.
"We want to know, not for our own benefit, but (so we can) explain to the people at large," he said, because 1MDB was established with the aim of helping the country.
On the implementation of GST, Shafie said the money collected should be used for the development of the country.
"Don't use the money for 1MDB. Or else I will be making noise," said Shafie.
