Organisers of events with Umbrella Revolution activist Joshua Wong, who was barred from entering Malaysia this afternoon, will press on with the scheduled talks even without the teen in the country.
He was scheduled to speak in a Tiananmen Massacre commemoration tour but was deported immediately after arrived in the Penang International Airport today.
"Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi claimed that national security maybe the main reason of blocking Wong from entering Malaysia.
"Not only (is this) ridiculous, but Zahid’s statement is making Malaysia a laughing stock in the international community," organisers 'Remember Tiananmen Massacre' (left) said in a Facebook statement.
The group notes that several foreign dissidents, including Taiwanese environmentalist Grace Kan, have been barred from entering Malaysia while opposition politicians and activists have been barred numerous times from Sabah and Sarawak.
It also claimed it received a warning call from China, with the caller claiming that he had reported the event ‘June 4 Tiananmen Massacre 26 th anniversary commemoration’ to the Chinese Embassy in China.
The caller also allegedly threatened to disrupt the event, the group said.
"In facing the unreasonable harassment, threat or oppression, we are standing firm and have no fear.
"We reiterate that the event will be hold as usual."
'We're not opposition stooges'
Separately, DuBook Press refutes a commentary published by Free Malaysia Today alleging that the publisher is conspiring with the opposition to bring Wong to Malaysia to destabilise the country.
DuBook is the organiser of a breakfast talk with Wong in Bandar Baru Bangi scheduled for May 30.
"DuBook is not a leftist publishing house and we are not headed by (activists) Rahmat Husin or Hishamuddin Rais (photo) . We don’t even know who Rahmat Husin is.
"DuBook does not have political leanings, be it Pakatan Rakyat or BN," it said in a statement.
The commentary was first published in pro-Umno blog khairulryezal.blogpot.com and promoted by the Umno Youth New Media Unit Twitter account.
Claims that the breakfast talk is organised by “the opposition” is also confusing, it said, since Bangi is in Selangor and the opposition in Selangor is BN.
"It’s an insult to DuBook, as we have always successfully organised events without the help of any political party," it said, demanding a correction and apology from the news portal.
The breakfast talk was to connect Malaysian youths with the Hong Kong activist on the topic of civil and democratic movements, it said.
'Stop being Beijing agent'
Wong, who is named by Time magazine as one of the most influential teens in the world is considered the face of Hong Kong’s resistance against Chinese influence.
He was scheduled to speak in events in Penang, Perak, Johor, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
According to PSM central committee member Choo Chon Kai (photo) , Wong was also schedule to speak on the same platform as Hong Kong legislative council member Leung Kwok-Hung.
"We worry that Leung will be facing the same obstructions by the immigration of Malaysia upon his arrival on coming Friday.
"We call upon our government to stop acting as the agent of Beijing government in stopping pro-democracy activists from Hong Kong to enter our country," he said in a statement.
