Khairy: Jho Low must be called in by PAC

Saying young billionaire Jho Low's fingerprints are all over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) dealings, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has urged Parliament's Public Accounts Committee to call in the controversial businessman.

Khairy is quoted by The Malay Mail Online today calling for Jho Low to be investigated over his alleged link with 1MDB, as there is too much speculation over his involvement.

“I hold PAC by the words at the moment, but Jho Low should eventually be called in. His alleged fingerprints are all over the 1MDB dealings,” Khairy, who is also Umno Youth chief, is quoted as saying.

“There is too much speculation on his involvement in 1MDB. I don’t think we cannot call him in,” he added further.

Khairy said PAC must call Low ( photo ), because if he is not called in, there will be no closure to the issue.

PAC chairperson Nur Jazlan Mohamed, in starting the 1MDB probe yesterday, said the committee would not call in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak or Jho Low.

However, Nur Jazlan's deputy in PAC, Dr Tan Seng Giaw, was reported as saying earlier this month that Jho Low could not be called due to limits of the law in PAC's scope, which only covers civil servants and those serving in GLCs.

“However, we are focussing on four officers. They will provide us with a lot of information," Tan was quoted as saying by Chinese daily Nanyang Siang Pau.

Najib has ordered the auditor-general and PAC to investigate 1MDB amid growing pressure for explanations from various quarters, including former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, over the troubled state investment firm's RM42 billion debt.
