YOURSAY ‘PAS’ continued attacks on her bring its motives into question.’
'Azizah wilted under pressure in 2008'
Ferdtan: I didn't know that religious people from PAS could character assassinate another fellow Muslim for their self-serving purposes?
It started with president Abdul Hadi Awang, then deputy spiritual leader, Haron Din, and now surprisingly a woman who should have shown more empathy for another woman, the Federal Territory PAS women's wing deputy head Rosni Adam, who came out with wild statements of PKR Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's lack of leadership.
The modus operandi is similar to what we often see in the crackdown of Pakatan leaders and supporters. Could this point to the suspicion that the current campaign by PAS against Wan Azizah is Umno-led?
When police arrested the Penang Voluntary Patrol (PPS) unit members the mainstream media claimed that some of them were tested positive for drugs. The means had satisfied the ends - their characters had been questioned.
In 2010, after 15-year-old student Aminulrasyid Amzah was shot dead by police, he was painted as a bad boy having ‘parang’ in his car boot while trying to escape from the police.
That was character assassination, wasn't it - not unlike what PAS is doing now on Wan Azizah?
Gerard Lourdesamy: The arrogance of this statement is that what PAS president Abdul Hadi wants, he must get and that he can even override the 30 state representatives in the State Assembly who support Wan Azizah.
Is Hadi Awang now God? PAS should just come out and say that it wants a PAS MB who can work with Umno with the sanction of the palace to lead Selangor. PKR and DAP should go fly kites and sit on the opposition benches.
The truth is that without PKR and DAP, PAS has a hope in hell of holding on to their 15 seats in Selangor if there is a snap election and like the two PAS state representatives who broke ranks to support Wan Azizah, others too will follow suit if it involves their bread and butter.
Can PAS guarantee it will be treated as an equal partner with Umno in a possible coalition if the elections are held tomorrow?
Like in the 1970s, Umno will play out PAS at the end and the Selangor reserves will be used up by Umno politicians and their cronies. Is this what PAS wants in the name of Islam?
By the way, Wan Azizah did not resign as opposition leader but resigned her seat as MP for Permatang Pauh and by implication, she ceased to be opposition leader in the Dewan Rakyat. This was done to enable Anwar Ibrahim to contest in the by-election and regain his old parliamentary seat.
The fact remains that Wan Azizah has been PKR president since 1999 and an MP from 1999 until 2008 and is now a state representative. How many PAS women leaders have held senior positions in the party’s central working committee, let alone that of president or deputy president or vice-presidents?
It is unfair to question Wan Azizah’s capabilities without giving her the opportunity to be MB. When Hadi Awang was parliamentary opposition leader from 1999 to 2004, what exactly did he achieve?
Malaya: I agreed with Gerald Lourdesamy - Kak Wan gave up the MP seat for DSAI (Anwar) so that he could make a comeback. This is indeed a great sacrifice but not as claimed by PAS.
Rosni, please get your facts right before condemning another person, especially another coalition partner. Please ask yourself, how did Hadi fare as PAS leader? Why did PAS lose Terengganu and Kedah?
At the very least, Kak Wan had been gracious in asking PKR members not to attack Hadi.
SusahKes: Her husband was unjustly incarcerated under trumped-up sodomy charges. He was beaten up while in detention.
She had to become the unifying figure in a new-born party signifying the struggle for justice - all this while her husband was jailed and vilified. She also had to continue playing the role of a mother and opposition leader.
She is known to be incorrupt. She stills stands by her man and her party cause, when she could have easily succumbed to the pressure and call it quits and fly off somewhere to enjoy a sunshine life. But no, here she remains, still the symbol of struggle for justice.
Fernz: Since the Selangor MB's post belongs to PKR, who they choose is their business. Other parties should shut their mouths.
P Dev Anand Pillai: It is pretty dumb of these ‘roses’ to chide another ‘rose’, when that ‘rose’ did not resign because she couldn’t handle the pressure but for the sake of allowing the sharpest and most painful thorn to come into Parliament to continue poking, and causing pain to the pirates who rule in the centre.
Blind allegiance by these ‘roses’ makes a mockery of women in leadership. Perhaps these ‘roses’ should note that Germany, Brazil, Argentina and Chile are run by ‘roses’.
Retnam: Let us face it, PAS does not have any assemblyman/woman who is capable of becoming an MB.
Ourvotesdecide: By alienating its partners in Pakatan like this, PAS will lose support. Remember, the Malay/Muslim votes will always be divided between Umno-BN and Pakatan.
Therefore, once the supporters/voters of PKR and DAP withdraw their support/votes for PAS, it’s impossible for PAS to win based on Malay/Muslim votes alone.
Since the historic 2008 election, non-Muslim/non-Malay voters had increasingly trusted and voted for PAS. But the recent statements, action and conduct of a few top PAS leaders pertaining to the Selangor MB issue were really disappointing.
With increasing non-Muslim/non-Malay support/votes for PAS, PAS could have just re-strategise to win more Malay/Muslim votes to add on to the non-Muslim/non-Malay votes in the next or future elections.
PAS, with the help of PKR and DAP, could easily achieve this if they can expose/educate more Malays/Muslims voters about how Umno itself cheated, exploited and manipulated them.
Anonymou:s$&@?: Not only PAS is lying, but they are also good in spinning the truth. Back in 2008, Azizah quit to make way for Anwar. What pressure is PAS talking about?
