YOURSAY ‘What was the ‘security breach’ committed by PPS?’
Zahid: PAS' Unit Amal to face action as well
Derock: Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, you need not react just because someone has issued you a challenge.
You are an adult and matured one, unless you claim otherwise. Only small minds would react to every challenge. Big minds would engage the other person to discuss and find a solution to the issue at hand.
What are you trying to teach the youths with your statements? It is no wonder that youths now spit at older people because they believe that being a hooligan is not wrong.
JustAMalaysian: The IGP (inspector-general of police) is answerable to the home minister. So I think Ahmad Zahid knows what he is talking about.
As to whether we can equate PPS (Penang Volunteer Patrol Unit) with PAS Unit Amal, I have my own interpretation of the law.
For one thing, PPS was set up by a legally elected state government whereas Unit Amal was set up by a political party. If indeed both are illegal societies, I wonder if the home minister has officially, by order, declared them as such and gazetted the orders.
As far as I understand, a society which has not been registered by ROS (Registrar of Societies) is just an unregistered society and is not an illegal society until and unless it has been declared illegal by the minister.
Of course, we will have a chance to find the truth if and when the issue at hand goes to court. I certainly hope so.
Probably the outcome of the case will be similar to the seizure of a certain book by an agency before it was officially, by gazette, banned from being put on sale.
Swipenter: As long as other "societies" like Tiga Line are not acted on by the IGP, anyone can perceived this move against PPS and PAS Unit Amal as deemed selective persecution and harassment by the IGP.
Multi Racial: I would have thought the police would see PPS as support to what they are doing and as such make an effort to legalise them.
After all, they were ones giving excuses of lack of budget or police personnel which resulted in security deteriorating.
To arrest those who help you is political and it’s sad our police force is not independent and work instead for Umno politicians.
Single Malt: What was the ‘security breach’ committed by PPS for IGP to take action against them? Was it his own personal security? Very funny, isn't it?
Bash: There are many gated communities all over the country. The committee collects contributions, barricade streets (albeit with local authority approval) and hires guards to safeguard local security. Are these committees also illegal?
Geronimo: 'Bash' is right. In my taman, which is a guarded and gated community, we have six security guards on duty, patrolling the area to keep us safe.
Is it illegal then to have them as some of them were caught for criminal activities at one time or another?
If security firms are allowed to be registered to provide such services, why can't DAP be allowed to have similar arrangements to protect the interests of the Penang community?
MalaysiaMyhome: Like PPS, PAS Unit Amal has been around for ages, why the sudden urge to arrest them? To please former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad?
PAS Unit Amal has a solid track record in keeping the peace, and now the minister is encouraging the police to arrest them.
But do it at your peril. The public will sympathise even more with the opposition, if the police continue this unreasonable arrest.
Ib: An independent police commission, as recommended by the Royal Commision of Inquiry on Police Reform, is what is needed.
Until this is in place, there will be no end to this rot that has started many years ago. Criminals are running rampant and the police are busy arresting community volunteers. And the home minister is not helping.
CiViC: When they are unable to catch the crooks and criminals, get those easier to catch, even if they are helping others.
At the same time, acknowledged extremists and gangsters like Isma, Tiga Line, Perkasa, and hold up Rela (People’s Volunteers Corps) like heroes, let them run loose like gang leaders and bully ordinary citizens, as long as they vote for BN.
Oh Ya?: Philippines has totally rid itself of the Marcos era; Indonesia is witnessing a peaceful transition of power to a civilian government that is totally free of the past Suharto dictatorial baggage; Cambodia's dictator Hun Sen is brought down to his knees; even Burma's military junta is opening up.
Bolehland is regressing and looks pale in comparison to these countries which are supposed to be backwards. In this era, how could a government simply crack down the opposition and dissidents without valid causes?
How can Bolehland, which aspired to become a developed country in six years' time, have this retarded mindset?
Gaji Buta: Is this the knee-jerk reaction to Dr M's recent rebuke of Najib not being firm?
I used to react stupidly when my parents told me off for appearing to be indecisive and soft. But now I am grown up, their comments do not affect me anymore. Najib, be your own man.
