    95.61 percent early voting turnout

    11:10pm: The turnout for early voting is 95.61 percent or 392 out of 410 early voters.

    Vandals spraypaint 'bodoh' on Mah's banner

    4.03pm: Vandals spraypaint the word 'bodoh' (stupid) on BN candidate Mah Siew Keong's banner at Jalan Sungai Nibong.

    This is the second time Mah's campaign material has been vandalised with black paint.

    Bernama reports that Mah was notified of this via text messages from locals.

    "This has never happened before in Teluk Intan as it is against our culture," the newswire quotes him as saying.

    Cost of living tops Dyana's manifesto

    1pm: DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud unveils her manifesto at the party's main operations centre.

    She emphasis on issues of high living cost, good governance, development for the new generation and women's rights.

    Dyana says that the manifesto was done based on a survey covering 400 Teluk Intan residents, making it one that meets local demands.

    Based on the poll, more than 60 percent of Teluk Intan residents earn less than RM3,000 a month, making the cost of living a top concern.

    She also plegdges to oppose the goods and services tax and ensure that BN's unfulfilled promises in Teluk Intan are fulfilled.

    DAP expresses thanks for media coverage

    11.30am: Perak DAP leader holds a tea session with local Chinese media personnel at the 1218 Restaurant.

    Party leaders present are DAP national adviser Lim Kit Siang, Perak DAP adviser Ngeh Koo Ham and its Perak chief Nga Kor Ming.

    They chit-chat with reporters and express their appreciation towards members of the press for the coverage given during the by-election campaign.

    Amanah Raya contribution for mother-of-four

    10.40am: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri and Amanah Raya chairperson Reezal Merican naina Merican spend some time visiting a single mother at her home in Jalan Mak Intan.

    There, the two BN leaders also hand the mother-of-four Amanah Raya’s monthly contribution.

    They then make their way to St John Hall to join local residents for the Klinik Pusaka Amanah Raya programme.

    'Bodoh' scrawled on Mah's poster

    10am: Mah reflects that he has never seen such a campaign in Teluk Intan as that being carried out now despite this being his fifth campaign for the parliamentary seat.

    He also slams a fake message being circulated that those who visit Mah's office would get a RM200 gift from him.

    "Many people came from far and left very angry," he says.

    Mah adds that DAP is too preoccupied with talking about him, questioning if the opposition party does not its own election agenda to pursue.

    Dyana visits early polling station

    9.30am: Advance voting for the Teluk Intan by-election started at 8am. DAP's Dyana visits the polling station, which is the multipurpose hall of the Hilir Perak district police headquarters.

    Background:

    • The seat fell vacant after former MP Seah Leong Peng, from DAP, passed away due to cancer on May 1.

     

  • DAP is fielding 27-year-old lawyer and Lim Kit Siang's former political secretary, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud.

  • If elected, she will become DAP's first Malay female MP, second youngest DAP MP to be elected and only the third Malay parliamentarian for the party in the current sitting.
