TELUK INTAN What’s happening in the by-election campaign in the  Teluk Intan parliamentary constituency? Quotable quotes, planned events and unplanned incidents as they take place.

[More to follow]

9.30pm: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Alumni Association urges DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud not to use her alma mater as campaign fodder.

"Don't involve UiTM. Everyone has the right to make statements but let it be truthful and with evidence.

"If it is for political campign without facts, then it does not show intelligence," the association's secretary general Shukri Ishak is quoted as saying by Bernama .

He also said that Dyana is only one of 600,000 UiTM alumni and that many others are also leaders in political parties other than Umno.

9pm: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang praises Dyana's mother Yammy Samat for her "brave" response to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad regarding Dyana's upbringing.

He said so during a ceramah at Pekan Baru Teluk Intan in front of a bumper crowd.

Yammy (right) was also cheered on by the crowd when she arrived at the venue with Dyana, dressed in a baju kurung.

Meanwhile, BN candidate Mah Siew Keong cancels attending his own ceramah in Kampung Selabak, some 4km from the venue of Pakatan Rakyat and Dyana's ceramah, and opts for a walkabout at the food court near the Gerakan headquarters instead.

5pm: The use of Sekolah Kebangsaan Selabak as the site of Barisan Nasional (BN)'s ceramah (political rally) in conjunction with the Teluk Intan Parlimentary by-election tonight is in accordance with the regulations set by the Election Commission (EC), reports Bernama .

Teluk Intan Umno division chief Saiful Bahar Mohd Arshad says, prior to making the decision, the matter was referred to EC as there was no empty or suitable area to hold the ceramah.

"I have already sent a letter to the school's principal for permission to hold the ceramah in the school by renting the site for RM500.

"We have also obtained a police permit to hold the ceramah," he tells reporters when commenting on PAS Youth's statement in attacking BN's action to hold the ceramah at the venue.

4pm: The campaign in Teluk Intan has slowed down in the afternoon following a day dominated by heavy rain and light drizzles which have kept the general public off the streets.

Both candidates, Dyana Sofya and Mah Siew Keong, however will have a ceramah at different locations simultaneously tonight.

Dyana has a tour of five different ceramah sessions at the city centre and the Malay heartland of Changkat Jong, while Mah will also address the crowd in Changkat Jong, which is regarded as a BN stronghold in this constituency.

11am: BN candidate Mah Siew Keong squashes DAP's allegation that he will be sworn in as a senator for ministership should he be defeated in the coming by-election.

"Do you think I can stand a chance (to be a senator) if I lose?" he asks during a walkabout at a morning market.

During a ceramah yesterday, several DAP leaders accused Mah of going through the "back door" to gain a ministerial post by becoming a senator should he lose to DAP's Dyana Soyfa Mohd Daud on the May 31 polls.

10.14am: PAS Youth election department director Mohd Sany Hamzan lambasts Perak Umno for using school grounds to campaign in the Teluk Intan by-election.

Mohd Sany zooms in on an Umno ceramah tonight taking place within the premises of Sekolah Kebangsaan Selabak, featuring Umno Youth exco member Fathul Bari and Kok Lanas state assemblyperson Alwi Che Ahmad.

“The PAS Youth election department will lodge a police report for abuse of government premises for political campaigning by Umno.

“We also ask that the Election Commission to get tough in enforcing election offences laws and not engage in selective enforcement,” he says in a statement.
