MH370 A PKR MP has asked Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS) if it would only offer RM90,000 in compensation for the next-of-kin of MH370 crew members, after the crew’s family members expressed their concern about the compensation amount stipulated in the collective agreement between MAS and its employees.
In Article 62 of the agreement, Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh ( right ) pointed out, the maximum compensation amount is RM90,000.
“The families are worried if this is what they will end up getting. They have already gone through so much over the past month,” Fuziah said, adding that the family members had alerted her about the agreement.
She said that the stipulated compensation pales in comparison with the US$1.5 billion (RM4.85 billion) compensation that the next of kin of crew members on board the plane used for 9/11 terrorist attacks in the US received.
She further said that many family members have also not worked in the 34 days since the Boeing 777 bound for Beijing went missing and is now assumed to have ended in the south Indian Ocean.
"It's a loss of income for a lot of them. Some of them (crew members) have been working for MAS for more than 20 years, and the amount is too small," she said.
Fuziah said the agreement was signed by a union body representing the crew and MAS.
