YOURSAY 'He is deliberately forgetful of what he had done and said. Luckily, with alternative media, he cannot lie any more.'
Dr M asked for Soros' help in peace project
Swipenter: Former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad does not care what is right and what is wrong. To him, there is no such thing as right or wrong but only what is politically expedient.
In public, he has carefully cultivated a self-image of a righteous and principled man out to redress all kinds of unequal treatment and injustice.
At home, he was seen as the champion of the disadvantaged community. But now it is very clear he did this primarily for political power, self-interest and avarice.
In the international arena, he endeared himself as a statesman of developing countries out to correct the imbalance and injustice between the developed and Third World countries.
Indeed, he is a master of deception and doublespeak.
Thetruth: This ‘mahaguru of spin' is really desperate nowadays. He keeps on shooting his own foot. He is deliberately forgetful of what he had done and said. Luckily, with alternative media, he cannot lie any more.
Clever voter: Dr M is a shrewd man. He knows what he is saying - his greatest gift is his ability to distract and his willingness to switch his opinions.
The trouble is no one is willing to stand up to him and he got away with his mischief all these years. Despite all these, he still draws a great deal of media attention, intended or otherwise.
Odin: Besides his other odious characteristics, Mahathir is obviously an animal with no principles whatsoever.
Slumdog: This is typical of Mahathir. When it suits him, he offers an olive branch to billionaire financier George Soros.
Now that he has a different agenda, he accuses Soros of seeking regime change in Malaysia. He is a devious old man who refuses to gracefully disappear from the political limelight.
NewMalaysia: Hmmm, it seems to me that someone had just opened a can of worms and it had spilled onto himself with it...
Starr: This clearly shows the credibility of Mahathir is at the lowest ebb, his fickle mindedness about foes and woes alike. Mahathir's allegations against Soros for his role in the Asian financial crisis in 1997 was a disguise to camouflage the failure of his policy.
Headhunter: What a contrast in personality between the two men - Mahathir and Soros.
One uses his own hard-earned personal wealth for justice and democracy, the other steals wealth that belongs to the people to enrich himself, his family and cronies. Between the two of them, which one would one respect?
FellowMalaysian: Right from its nascent stage in 2005, Global Foundation Forum, a set-up under Mahathir's Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) umbrella, was doomed because of Mahathir's insincerity and bigotry.
PGPF was tasked with a prime role to create attention to the plight and suffering of the Muslim world.
In May 2011, humanitarian ship ‘Spirit of Rachel Corrie', sponsored by PGPF, was attacked by the Israeli navy in waters near Gaza in their attempt to deliver 7.5km of sewage pipes to the Palestinians in Gaza. In the incident, several Turkish participants were killed and some Malaysians injured.
PGPF has since become quiescent and must have died a natural death. I guess back then in 2005, shrewd Soros must have some premonitions of PGPF's sly activities before he rejected Mahathir's offer.
Absalom: Soros is an expert in sizing up people, companies and countries. That's why he is such a successful fund manager. But 'menace to his country" is an understatement.
Anonymous #19098644: Mahathir has some good points, such as the campaign for global peace.
However, he is an opportunistic man who will not hesitate to reverse himself when it suits him and promote racism and religious extremism in the pursuit of his own personal agenda.
This is evident in his extremist speeches backing Perkasa and Umno and other extreme right-wing and religious positions.
He has also shown time and again to have selective amnesia as to what he had done and what he had said. This man is not worth trusting. It is all about Mahathir first, his party second and his country last.
Jean Pierre: It is so wrong of people to accuse Mahathir of having a split personality when in fact he is afflicted with multiple personalities.
Tpn: Malaysiakini should pass a copy of the letter to Utusan Malaysia and New Straits Times . Let's see if they have the guts to publish in their front pages headlined, ‘Mahathir joins Soros in attempting to bring regime change in Malaysia'.
Leongan: Mahathir fits in very well the Chinese saying: Devil he is, God he is!
