Probe panel: A horrendous error in judgment

YOURSAY 'It looks like Najib is definitely making a fool of the rakyat to think we will accept his ‘independent' panel to probe Bersih 3.0.'

Hanif Omar leads Bersih 3.0 probe panel

Ferdtan: The audacious appointment of the former inspector-general of police Hanif Omar as head of independent panel to probe incidents of violence at the Bersih 3.0 rally is hard to understand.

He had compromised himself by calling the protesters 'communists' and claiming Bersih 3.0 was a coup d'etat attempt to overthrow the government.

This may show that BN government couldn't care less for the feelings of the people. Are they so callous that it does not even bother them at all? Are they playing a psychological game?

They know very well that Hanif is not acceptable to all. Possibly later, they will announce that Hanif rejects the appointment. Is it a plan to divert attention from the other members of the committee to avoid scrutiny?

They are not seen to be persons of standing in the community (with the exception of the former chief judge). Not to insult, the rest are merely wage-earning executives, including the professor.

Disgusted: I'm shocked. It looks like Najib is definitely making a fool of the rakyat to think we will accept his "independent" panel to probe Bersih 3.0. What a waste of time and money.

We still insist on the cleaning up of the electoral rolls and the resignation of the Election Commission chief and his deputy - both of whom were Umno members - and a revamp in the composition of the EC.

Let's not be distracted from the real aims of Bersih.

Timothy: In that case, I already know the findings of the panel: It is confirmed then that Bersih 3.0 are communist sympathisers, funded by socialist elements to overthrow the government through initially occupying Merdeka Square... some elements of external funds were found to be from a neighbouring socialist country.

Bersih co-chairperson S Ambiga is horrified, but I am terrified at the thought of it.

Lynn: I don't understand how one can justify the appointment of a Petronas corporate affairs senior general manager when there are no appointees from any human rights group.

What a sham of a committee. I personally think the people advising Najib and the government are idiots or Pakatan Rakyat spies. They can't be that stupid, can they?

Doc: There is no need to wait for the Bersih 3.0 panel probe's finding. Let me outline the findings:

1) Police acted professionally at all times during the ‘riot'.

2) Opposition politicians planned in advance to ensure the protest turned violent.

3) Police were victims, protesters the aggressors.

4) Police seen beating up protesters brutally were actually Pakatan supporters dressed in police uniform trying to paint a bad picture of the force.

5) Many protesters slipped and fell on the road and they were forced by the opposition to say that the police had beaten them up.

6) The foreign media reported the incident wrongly as they were influenced by the infidel US trying to illegally install Anwar Ibrahim as PM.

7) Police spraying chemical-laced water was a lie. They sprayed Jasmine-scented water on the rakyat as it was a hot day to cool them off.

LongYanren: I think this is a most horrendous error in judgment on the part of government to have appointed Hanif Omar to head the panel, what with the strong public reaction against his views of communist elements infiltration of the Bersih rally and the possible coup attempt.

I am beginning to think that this government is really taking citizens as damn bloody fools. This appointment is going to backfire badly.

Joe Lee: To quote the recently departed Ernest Callenbach, a very progressive American writer: "As empires decline, their leaders become increasingly incompetent - petulant, ignorant, gifted only with PR skills of posturing and spinning, and prone to the appointment of loyal idiots to important government positions. Comedy thrives; indeed writers are hardly needed to invent outrageous events. Their civilian leaderships become increasingly crazed, corrupt, and incompetent, and often the military takes over (which is, after all, a parasite of the whole nation, and has no independent financial base like the looter class)."

Replace 'empires' with Malaysia, 'military' with the police/MACC, 'looter class' with Umno and its cronies.

Indeed Malaysia is not unique at all. Only that it is at a very advanced state of disrepair. The idiotic comedians are still running the show not quite knowing that their show will have to end very soon. Appointing Hanif Omar as probe leader is really comedy in action.

Chris Wong: Let us not waste any more time with RCI, independent panels, special commissions, etc.

Every time we have one, read the scope of the panel/commission carefully, and you will find that all are extremely restrictive. Malaysians should now DIY (do it yourself) if they intend to have a say in the direction of the country.

We cannot rely anymore on our politicians. Participate, engage and mobilise with other civil society groups.

Hmmmmmmmm: I thought one of our ministers said that we are a sovereign nation and capable of independent probe?

With Hanif as the leader of the probe, I guess we should forget about any probe and save our money.

UN special rapporteur Frank La Rue , now you know why you're not wanted - this is the kind of people they are looking for.
