Boar heads in mosques: 'Beware of provocateurs'

your say 'Parade those responsible with placards hanging from their necks saying, ‘I'm the one who threw the pig heads into the mosques' or ‘I'm the one who firebombed the churches'.'

Wild-boar heads found at two PJ mosques

Long Arm: This is barbarism taken to new heights: unthinkable, oblivious self-serving barbarism. The persons who did this do not deserve mercy. We can't allow them to foment anarchy. The situation as it stands is bad enough - this is totally unacceptable and must be condemned by all quarters.

Keturunan Malaysia: To the powers-that-be: Go all out to apprehend the ‘animals' as soon as you can. Once found guilty, parade them for all of us peace-loving Malaysians to see who they are - with placards hanging from their necks saying, ‘I'm the one who threw the pig heads into the mosques' or ‘I'm the one who threw paint/firebombed the churches'.

Those behind them, if any, must be treated the same.

Geronimo: This is the work of agent provocateurs of certain ultra-nationalist cliques within Umno whose leaders Najib Abdul Razak, Hishammuddin Hussein, Nazri Abdul Aziz and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah no longer have any control over.

Those who burned the two surau in Muar could have come from the same group who desecrated the other places of worship in order to cast suspicions on the Christians. To all my Malay brethren, we need to stand together to see ourselves through these troubled times.

Doc: Why do I believe it was Umno? Because:

(i) The Herald case failed to galvanise Malay support and backfired on them terribly, serving only to alienate them further from Malays. They needed to try something, anything, to regain popularity among the masses;

(ii) Placing boars' head in mosques is not a good idea because things may really get out of hand (few dare to do this);

(iii) Exploiting racial and religions issues is a trademark of Umno;

(iv) Inspector-general of police Musa Hassan was at the scene of the incident as soon as it happened. Musa's response is usually rapid in matters concerning Umno's interests;

(v) These are desperate times for Umno and desperate measures are needed to regain lost support.

Christopher: So Umno has done what they know best when under siege - create public chaos. I suspect that they are planning something big, like declaring emergency rule or embarking on mass arrests under the Internal Security Act.

Watchman: Umno stands to gain if there is any racial disturbance. It tried to rile up the Christians with their church burnings and other minor acts of destruction. They are cunning enough not to create too much damage or stay too long as to get caught. It didn't work. The Christians didn't bite.

Umno tried the same tactics on the Sikhs. They also didn't bite. Now Umno is trying it on the Muslims. Right-thinking Muslims will also not bite, despite prodding from Umno and Jakim (Islamic Development Department ).

Pak Ubu: Only an idiot would believe that these provocative acts are spontaneous and not part of Umno's desperate plan to trigger racial-religious violence in the streets, which would give them an excuse to declare a national emergency and impose martial law.

1Umno: Unlike the cow-head incident , police chief Musa and his top brass were at the scene immediately after the news got out. His statement, "Don't try to take advantage to raise the anger of any ethnic group" sounds like the typical Umno battle-cry, "Don't provoke the Malays!"

Ko Pi Ior: This is clearly the work of sick opportunists, probably some unemployed or underemployed people paid to do it or those seeking attention and out to create social chaos. We should not make any references to race or religion here.

Let the police act on this. Let us, meanwhile, stand together and condemn them unequivocally.

Malaysian for Malaysia: This is more likely the work agent provocateurs trying to instigate Muslims into retaliating violently. Non-Muslims in Malaysia aren't so stupid or suicidal as to start an outright religious clash with Muslims who make up 70 percent of the population in Peninsular Malaysia.

Someone is trying to instigate Muslims, and this does not bode well. What are the police doing? Sitting on their hands when not harassing opposition ceramahs?

Rocky: It looks like some people are hell-bent on trying to cause problems, especially in Selangor. These acts of burning churches, surau and throwing pig heads are disgusting. May Allah burn them in hell.

Thank God, Malaysians are calm and rational. We should not speculate on who did this, but let's resist their actions by being civil instead of falling into the trap set by these hooligans.

Hanim Hassan: Whoever did this is most certainly doing it to fan racial/religious antagonisms and - though I hope I am wrong - instigating racial riots. As a woman who lived through May 13, 1969, I am praying that this will not happen.

I am suspicious - if dumping pig heads were done by non-Muslims, there would no need to wrap the heads in plastic bags. Isn't this a good opportunity for the corrupt to 'distract' Malaysians from the real issues?

GK: So far, we have witnessed the maturity of Malaysians for not falling into the trap of these provocateurs. If Muslims from elsewhere react violently over such instigation, let's show the rest of the world that Malaysian Muslims are not like that.

Kgan: After failing to incite the non-Malays, the extremists are going for the Malays. This group is trying to create racial tensions and they have played the last card. I hope the Malays can see through this attempt at instigation and remain calm, for then the extremists would have failed.

Watch Perkasa and the Umno-controlled Utusan Malaysia closely.

David Dass: I hope that calm heads prevail. Mischief-makers are clearly exploiting the situation. This is not about Christians versus Muslims or Malays versus non-Malays. These are evil forces at work - the forces of Satan who are determined to bring chaos onto our land.

Let no argument be based on the assertion that our freedoms should be curbed. We must renew our fight for truth, justice and the rule of law. Let us, whichever side of the political divide we may be on, resolve to hurl these miscreants into the fires of hell where they belong.

Disgusted: They tried it on Christians and Sikhs but both did not respond. Now they are trying to stir up Muslims, knowing some Muslims have the tendency to retaliate in a violent manner if their religion or religious places are desecrated.

It's these people who deserve the Internal Security Act - not innocent people who raise issues of mismanagement and corruption by the ruling party and government. No one will complain if such actions against the real criminals are taken. Instead, they seem to be given the soft-glove approach.

Wong SP: Before things get out of hand, leaders of parties from both sides of the political divide should hold a joint press conference to condemn such attacks and show that these cowardly acts will not be tolerated by anybody.

Hedonese: The only way we can beat them is to close ranks and be agents of peace. We must refuse to retaliate or give in to their provocations.
