I just read about this event on March 2 at the Petaling Jaya Hilton when Roger Fisk, US President Barack Obama’s National Director of Special Events will arrive Malaysia for a full-day session to talk about ‘Hope and Change’.

With due respect to Roger Fisk (he spent 22 months on the road with Obama), I noted upon closer inspection that the ensuing panel discussion features Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Horrors! I am stumped as to what this individual can add to the agenda of change!

But the organisers seem to have got the rest of the agenda right by getting Fisk to KL in the first place. Obama’s campaign was the most endearing marketing and popular campaign ever.

Malaysians attending this event are surely not going to expect a wave of ‘Change’ to sweep Malaysia the next day. But the lessons Roger could share would merit much thought.

Maybe that’s the consolation we’ll have to live with. Maybe that’s the only change we’ll see. The change in ourselves.

But putting Zaid Ibrahim and Khairy Jamaluddin with Roger Fisk on a discussion panel could draw some fire… and perhaps a change of hearts?
