I refer to the letter Crossovers not the way to gov't.
I am glad to see that what I wrote has caused a Malaysian to think a little deeper about what is happening. I am from a British colony myself and am not from the US as I think the writer was insinuating.
I love Malaysia as much as I love the country I was born in. I love the people, the culture, the history, and the land itself. Malaysia - apart from my citizenship status - is where I and my family call home.
So I would like to think that I share many of the feelings that Malaysians do and since my wife being Malaysian does so, I guess I must be in the ball park.
It sickens me to read about all the horrible things that are going on in this wonderful country and the fact is that these things are being done by the people that were voted in by the people to work for the people.
You don’t have to have anything more than eyes and ears to know that there are a great many people in high places that are scared by what is coming. For that matter I can understand why it takes someone as brave as Anwar to entice the politicians that are ‘hiding’ in BNs ranks to come out or crossover.
It does worry me that these same people could be simply the rats jumping off the sinking ship.
As to the writer’s outlook on the crossovers, he or she is looking at it as a party issue. When I vote, I vote for a candidate who may be of a particular party that has stated policies or some sort of agenda that they think the majority of the people will want.
Hence the party gaining power and, yes forming government. However, I would hope that the person that I have voted for would have the good of his electorate at heart more so than the party he is a member of.
So crossing over from what you see as a corrupt party to one that you can only hope is good or not corrupted is acceptable in my books.
But when it is all said and done, sooner or later Malaysia will have to vote again and it will be up to you all to make up your mind on what you think is the best decision for this country.
I hope with all my heart that at the end of the day, the right people are in power and doing what is right for this country because I would like to grow old here and not have to run off to my home country because this one has fallen into turmoil.
So I still believe that it is wrong of a party leader to pass the leadership to another member and I also still believe it to be wrong for a party leader to ask to be left as leader uncontested in a party election.
This because they are asking members to not represent the people that have voted them into their positions and therefore to not do their jobs.
Oh yeah, and on a personal note, I am happy that I was able to provide the writer with some amusement in these sad and scary times.
