I read with great amusement Bradley Clay’s remarks about leaders of political parties passing on the baton and without a contest or asking for a ‘no-contest’.
Firstly I would like the writer to know that democracy from where he comes from is not the franchise holder, the giver nor the rule maker. Secondly, this is a political party and they have a right to ask their members what they would like to see and the members will decide.
Rafidah can still be challenged as can be Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak. It just so happens that they are prime minister and deputy prime minister but that does not mean we did not select the two of them democratically.
They lead their parties and can make any request they like within their parties. The rakyat voted them in via the count of members of parliament from their coalition of parties as a majority in parliament.
When Anwar Ibrahim goes back to parliament, he indicated that there will be crossovers and he then can form the federal government. I really wonder if this is called ‘democracy’.
Thirty crossover MPs deciding on what the rakyat has already done, and now decide to re-do it themselves. Thirty people out of the millions who voted.
These guys are traitors in the eyes of the public, not because they crossed over to Pakatan Rakyat but because they ‘sell’ Malaysia away so easily - our safety, our decisions, our general election, our democracy and our right to choose.
What is the meaning of democracy, I ask all who involve themselves in crossovers, both in the ruling and opposition parties? My respect goes out to the MCA, MIC, Gerakan, DAP and PPP for maintaining their dignity and democratic principles.
If one is American, than this cannot happen, as the people vote for the president and when you want to take him down , then you get a guy like Ken Starr or leave it to the president's excesses then try to impeach him.
This is a tougher form of democracy, as the number of the president’s men in the senate will decide his fate (Gee, I am getting to like this...).
Now let’s get to the real story. We practice a form of government similar to the UK and for those not British, I will enlighten him on the part that the party that wins - I repeat, wins - the most seats in parliament.
They form the government, and the leader of that party is the prime minister. The end game is that the people have chosen and until the next elections, that is the way it will be.
In the UK it is Brown, Gordon to be exact, who pushed out Blair, you all know Tony I am sure, without party elections. Major, John that is, did the same to Thatcher and this story goes back down the years with Labour, Tories, and Liberals.
So, unless you belong to Umno and more importantly Wanita Umno, you can stand for the chief's post. Give hell to Rafidah, and then when Anwar takes over as PM , investigate her.
