As a former army officer, I totally agree with May who wrote the letter [#1] Police bias betrays public trust [/#] (April 21). Indeed, the PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) must reclaim their honour and credibility as a professional force loyal only to the nation and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, not Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Umno or Barisan Nasional. The police must be above the political fray between Mahathir and others like Parti Keadilan Nasional.

The recent Internal Security Act (ISA) arrests and the pretext given by Inspector-General of Police Norian Mai clearly indicate that PDRM is now exploited as a political instrument by Mahathir and Umno to suppress a legal and constitutional party, namely Keadilan. It is wrong for the police to be so deeply involved in partisan politics.

There are also many police reports lodged by opposition leaders against Umno leaders, including Mahathir, Rafidah Aziz and Daim Zainuddin, which have yet to be investigated by the police. The police owe the nation and the world an explanation why no action has been taken on these serious reports.

It is time for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja-Raja Melayu (Malay kings) to initiate a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the abuse of power by the PDRM top ranks, and to restore the image and honour of our security personnel.
