It never ceases to amaze me why people continue to vote for Barisan Nasional. Okay, I can understand if the leeches (pronounced ‘cronies’) vote for BN, but why anyone else?
Corruption
Everyone knows that corruption is a plague in Malaysia condoned and willingly spread by BN. What is corruption by a government? In its simplest form, it is the illegal raping of a county’s economic wealth - meant for the benefit of the citizen - for the personal accounts of the privileged few. If every employee of a bank, for example, jointly conspired to steal money from your account, which you had trusted them to manage, would you continue placing your money in that bank? Furthermore, would you elect some of these same employees to represent you in more important matters affecting your children? It’s as simple as that. So why continue voting BN?
Racism
As long as human beings have an independent thought process, there will always be some level of racism. That’s inevitable. However, institutionalised racism is a whole different thing, which Barisan Nasional practices. This is apartheid, ie, a policy of segregation and political and economic discrimination for a particular race(s).
Racist discrimination is found in all aspects of Malaysian society, ie, entrance to higher educational institutions, scholarships, employment, house purchases, business opportunities, licenses, etc. It has become the new religion of Umno.
Cronyism
This goes hand-in-hand with corruption and racism. In Malaysia, corruption and racism is unique. Even within a particular race, further discrimination is encountered through cronyism. This is why no matter what form of institutionalised racist laws are implemented, not all persons of that race will reap the benefits. In Malaysia, it’s the elite Umno Malays and a few pseudo-Umnoputras that will benefit. In view of this unique system of racial discrimination, the non-privileged poverty- stricken Malays will forever remain poor while the privileged Umno elite will have a larger share of the economic pie.
Intelligence
When we choose a person to represent us in a legal suit, we want a person who is competent and who will be able to safeguard our interests. When we choose a doctor, we want a person who is familiar and competent with our ailment. Similarly, when we choose a person to represent us in the government, we want a person who is competent and will be able to safeguard our interests. So why choose BN candidates?
When the Indians asked our PM to assist in our current problems, he asked us to go see the president of MIC, S Samy Vellu. When the Indians went to see Samy Vellu to stop the demolition of the Hindu temples, he said that he could not do anything. When the Indians asked him to speak to the PM to release the five detained Hindraf leaders, he said, ‘I can't do that because I don't have the power’. Doesn’t he know that by electing him as our parliamentary representative, we have given him the power? What extra power does a minister need to speak to his boss about a problem affecting the citizens?
In the Barisan Nasional, the lack of knowledge and comical behavior is not only monopolised by Samy Vellu. There are numerous candidates for this, one of which is another BN parliamentary candidate Donald Lim. He actually compares Malaysia to Burma. Maybe he did that because the corruption and human rights’ violation levels in the two countries as similar?
Democracy vs. Fascism
Democracy
i. A democratic government is a government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives. One of the crucial elements of a democratic system is a strong opposition. The opposition is a vital part of the democratic system.
Fascism
Do not confuse Fascism with Nazism. Nazism is not a government structure. Fascism is a government structure. The most notable characteristic of a fascist country is the separation and persecution or denial of equality to a specific segment of the population based upon superficial qualities or belief systems.
Simply stated, a fascist government always has one class of citizens that is considered superior to another based upon race, creed or origin. Fascism promotes legal segregation in housing, national resource allocations and employment. It provides legal justification for persecuting a specific segment of the population and operates behind a two-tiered legal system. In fascism, one segment of society is always considered less desirable, sub-human or second class.
To all voters, based on the above, think wisely before you vote. If you need coaxing, just remember Umno Perlis delegate Hashim Suboh’s question to keris - raising Education Minister Hishammudin Onn. He asked when will he (Hisham) be using his keris ?
