I am a foreign national doing business in Malaysia. Unfortunately, I am a subscriber of Streamyx as most of my business is conducted online.
My Streamyx works occasionally and the speed is extremely poor - most of the times the service is unavailable for weeks due to several reasons including repeated cable thefts, technical faults and unhelpful staff.
Two weeks back, my Streamyx modem was knocked out by lightning. After repeated calls and complaints, one of the staff came to provide me a new modem, which incidentally did not work. I was told that there was a fault in the cable and they would fix, but until today the problem is not fixed. Although I can connect to the Internet, it only lasts a few seconds and it gets disconnected.
Due to problems of Streamyx, a couple of my neighbours who migrated from Canada and the United States have gone back because their businesses were online as well. The Streamyx service has resulted in huge losses for them, similar to what is happening to me. I wish to do the same as it is impossible to do business in Malaysia because of the Internet service. But for the time being, my personal circumstances does not allow me to get out.
Time and again, we have written to the prime minister and to the newspapers, but the situation has not changed.
