I refer to the Malaysiakini report, Bar: It's about justice, not politics .
Shahrir Samad has had a long and illustrious career as an MP and a champion of rights. His talents were obviously not 'appreciated ' in the sycophantic Umno and it is a case of what might have been a lost opportunity for not only Umno but also the country as he would have excelled at engaging and selling the message to the people through his intellect and sense of fair play.
It therefore has come as a huge surprise to me when he attacked the Bar Council for the recent protest walk. He, of all our so-called elected representatives would have been expected to appreciate the crisis we now face, and even led the walk if he had been just another lawyer.
Of course he couldn't. But by joining in the chorus with the likes of our 'I'm here to uphold the law and not be popular' de facto law minister, Shahrir has crossed the rubicon and all the years in Umno has finally taken its toll.
What a shame.
