LETTER | This Christmas season, the Association for Welfare, Community and Dialogue urges global powers to work for enduring peace in the Middle East, Ukraine, where war is destroying their humanity and historical sanctity.
The raging war in the Middle East and Ukraine reveals a reality of the world where its leaders and collaborators have lost the will and desire for enduring peace.
Peace in global politics is viewed from the position of ideological, economic and military domination, while peace rooted in the birth of Christ is based on humility, goodwill and justice that transcends ideology.
In the season of Christmas and day-to-day liturgical celebrations, Christians around the world sing the hymn, “Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, and peace to people of goodwill.
It is a reminder that peace cannot be divorced from the spirituality of acknowledging the source of peace which comes from divine grace.
Peace on Earth shows the importance of living in harmony with the environment. Peace to people of goodwill has no ideological or sectarian religious sentiment; rather it works on the basis of recognising the dignity and goodness in others.
These call for greater collaboration among all to build a culture of peace in the world.
Therefore it is hoped that the light of peace prevails in its true sense that requires the effort of all people and leaders of good will.
This would help generate hope for suffering people in the Middle East, Ukraine and parts of the world going through unrest.
