Yesterday’s The Star had a letter which claimed it for a fact that “certain branches of the opposition front used posters of Barisan Nasional’s S Anthonysamy clad in a bishop’s attire to frighten voters from voting for him”.
Has it been established that the opposition was indeed responsible for the posters?
That letter writer seemed to have conveniently forgotten that it was Barisan Nasional which started this practice in the 1990 elections. A photograph of Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah wearing the Kadazan headgear which has a pattern resembling a cross, was spread and extensively highlighted in the newspapers to give the perception that he was wearing a Christian headgear with a cross.
Until now no one has taken responsibility for those photographs.
