It is really very saddening to note that since the release of the pictures of dishonest lawyers in the press a few weeks ago, there seems to be a flurry of comments on how lawyers should be treated, paid with some even suggesting that some transactions don't need lawyers.

How naive and immature of some to suggest this. When they have problems, they run to look for the best attorney that money can buy because their freedom is at stake. When they need to be advised on what the law is before a deal is brokered, they still look for a firm of solicitors who can provide that expert advice.

But when they see some lawyers' photographs being published in the media, they suddenly begin to form an opinion that lawyers are the greatest scoundrels.

The writer who goes by the pseudonym 'RV' has gone way overboard in his/her condemnation of members of the legal profession. Just because the police have decided to release the photographs of dishonest lawyers, the entire profession is painted in a bad light? What about useless doctors who are negligent with their patients? What about greedy architects who don't bother to conform to proper and safe building guidelines? What about cheating accountants who embezzle monies with which they are entrusted with?

Lawyers don't just 'cut and paste'as said by 'RV'. They see that the rights of the clients are protected and they advise the client all the way until the transaction is completed. Blaming the entire legal profession because a few have taken money from their clients and bolted is very unfair and totally unacceptable.

What about corrupted politicians who are entrusted by the people to help govern the country? Everyone takes a swipe at lawyers because they are the easiest targets. The police, too, enjoy taking a jab or two at lawyers because they are usually on opposite sides in court, one for the accused and the other for the state.

Please take a hard and good look at yourselves and all the others who are cheating in the name of helping to govern society before blaming lawyers. Most of the best leaders that the modern world ever had were and are members of the legal profession.

'RV' might despise lawyers but one knows that the legal profession is still made up many good and hard-working members who are only trying to make an honest and decent living.
