LETTER | As we draw the curtain on the year that was, let us reflect on our actions. We must learn and move forward progressively as a united family.

It was a year of recovery. We picked up the pace and started recovering from the economic wounds left behind by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Life as we know it has somewhat returned to pre-pandemic levels. However, in the midst of the festivities and ushering in the new year, let us also take a moment to remember those who fell victim to Covid-19.

There were those who managed to pull through while there are some whom we have lost forever. Take a moment and count your blessings.

We were united during the pandemic and it brought out the best in Malaysians. We were there for each other and we made our respective sacrifices for the greater good.

We showed each other the true meaning of family. This noble action and effort must be intensified. We need to carry on this sense of togetherness and care for each other. Not just through the tough times but make it a way of life.

The new year brings hope and promises. Let’s anchor on that positivity and foster our sense of unity. Practice moderation in our speech and actions.

Please do not go overboard. One does not need to look far, we only need to go on social media to see, at times, a downright evil exchange of words and comments.

Remember our civic duty to one another. We all have a duty to contribute to the progress of our beloved Malaysia and as we reflect on the year that was and usher in 2023, let the spirit of Malaysian unity serve as a guide for a renewed and strengthened sense of hope and togetherness.

I would like to extend my warmest wishes and Happy New Year greetings to all. We have and will always be a united family.
