I refer to the letter High time to learn about other religions by Animah Ferrar. While I agree with the writer on the idea of mutual respect and effort to make information on all religions accessible, I would like to point out to the writer that the word 'Allah' is not reserved for the Muslim god only.
The word 'Allah' is an Arabic word for 'God', the One and Only. This word is used by the Muslim Arabs, Christian Arabs and Jew Arabs to mean 'God'.
We don't have to travel far to verify that. One just needs to pick up a bible from Indonesia and find the word 'Allah' in every passage. There hasn't been a single issue in Indonesia arising from what the writer said was a 'sensitive' word that should be avoided from being used in scriptures of other religions besides Islam.
I would like to advise the writer to do some research before quoting such examples as it might offend the feelings of other fellow Malaysians.
