LETTER | Never-ending political turmoil featuring rakyat's 'cry’ for help

LETTER | Here we are, once again, as if we were back in February 2020. The same feelings and emotions all over again. These past few days, we have been informed and presented by the media, tweets, and other social media platforms on news and speculations of our country’s political state.

The only difference is that all of these fiascos are happening when the country and its people are facing the most crucial and critical situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thousands of people have died every day. We are talking about someone’s husband, wife, father, wife, brother, sister and friend.

Once upon a time, somewhere in 2018, we once used the phrase "the people’s euphoria" to describe our joy, and excitement toward the state of the country, but now I don’t believe the same phrase applies to the current situation.

That euphoria has long gone and has been replaced with pure sadness, frustration and anger as Covid-19 came into the picture, and our current political state is not helping either.

Amid the pandemic, politicians are still busy doing what they do best. The people are still suffering even after a year of lockdown that thus far, has resulted in nothing and yet, for the next 24 hours, the headlines will still be - Who’s the next PM?

Sure, it's the most important topic. Cybertroopers are actively tweeting, playing a guessing game and launching a psywar on social media, claiming that their parties have the majority, this person is the next PM, forever PM tepi (PM on the side) and so on. Nothing fancy, nothing new, same old.

Bottom line is, whoever gets to be the next prime minister, please know that we are exhausted and beat. You can play all the political games that you want, but we see all of you. We’ve marked you, and we shall determine your fate in the next general election (if you were to be elected by your party, of course).

May we all get out from this devastation, safe and alive.
