I presume Khalid J is not aware of the Malaysian reality. To my knowledge, a non-Muslim Malaysian who marry a Malaysian Muslim always convert to the Islamic religion. This has been the standard practice. This is also to maintain the harmony between Muslims and non-Muslims.
Couples who fall in love will usually take extreme precautions before committing themselves to each other, especially if one is a Muslim and the other, a non-Muslim. Multi-religious countries like Indonesia and India do allow inter-marriages as Khalid has argued, but in Malaysia the Muslims - who form the majority race - are highly sensitive on such matters.
Why disturb the hornet's nest? Just follow the majority. If one of the partners who is non-Muslim and refuses to convert then he/she should sacrifice his/her love to save the country from unnecessary problems. Let's not destroy beautiful Malaysia just because of one person's actions. Think and behave rationally.
