From Our Readers

I refer to the letter Brickendonbury R&D centre invaluable . With due respect to Tan Sri, I would like to say that for Malaysia, the time has come to look at our own backyard in promoting and maintaining world-class research facilities.

We should groom local researchers who are talented and who can outdo Western science and expertise. It's time to slowly bring TARRC's research activities and operations back home. It's time for Malaysia to stem its brain drain by helping local talent who can spearhead a lot of research operations right here in this country.

Instead of stressing the merits of Western centres, why don't we look right here under our noses to spot, develop and sustain local talents and fund their research? Let's learn to spot them here, nurture them and encourage them. Results won't come easily or within a short time, but when they do, we can truly be proud as a nation.

It's time Malaysia look to their very own garden (and playing fields) for their very own recipe for international success and recognition. One should not say that foreigners are much better equipped to meet the challenges posed when we don't provide a proper climate, nor recognise nor equip our local talent to succeed.
