I refer to the letter Re-open probe into Syed Ahmad's letter .
I do not know if the letter's writer, whoever he may be (allegedly Syed Ahmad Idid) would want to face the gauntlet. What is the protection for whistle-blowers? I believe we must first discuss protection for witnesses.
It would be a good idea for groups like Hakam to explore a public meeting and campaign in relation to allegations of corruption, witness protection, independence of the judiciary, the call for an independent judicial commission, the judges' code of conduct, among others.
Certainly the Bar Council could put in some support. Perhaps there could be invitations to the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) in Geneva or even invites to eminent judges. Retired judges like the judge in the Likas election petition, George Seah, Syed Ahmad Idid, the judge who was Suhakam's head in its first two years (he decided for freedom of religion in the ISA Joshua Jamaluddin case) could be invited for the public discussions.
Journalists like Steven Gan who did his share of investigative reporting on corruption in the judiciary should not be excluded.
