LETTER | Irresponsible of tertiary students who violated mandatory 14-day quarantine

LETTER | The tertiary students who violated the mandatory 14-day quarantine as reported in the media on May 19 is an irresponsible act that can put many others in danger of getting infected with Covid-19.

It was reported that some of these students are down with Covid-19.

It is also disrespectful towards the freedom allowed by the Higher Education Ministry for the students to cross state borders to return home.

It will not be surprising that with such attitudes and irresponsible behaviour, we will eventually see a second wave of Covid-19 infections very soon.

We urge the ministries concerned to tighten the monitoring of students who have been allowed to return home.

Stricter enforcement may also be needed along state borders.

We understand that many students may be homesick and are missing their families but such irresponsible acts can even put their own family members at risk of Covid-19 infections.

Their elderly loved ones, children and those with a history of chronic diseases can be at serious risk of complications from Covid-19.

Malaysia has made significant progress in the fight against Covid-19 but the attitude and acts of an irresponsible few can hamper the nation’s efforts to prevent the spread of infections.

MMA wishes to remind the public again that the Covid-19 pandemic is not yet over.

The new norm of strict personal hygiene and social distancing must continue to be observed at all times.
