It comes as a surprise that former chief justice Mohd Eusoff Chin still lies that a thorough investigation was carried out on a letter submitted by former judge Syed Ahmad Idid Syed Abdullah in which the latter categorically implicated 12 judges of corruption and abuse of power.
The rakyat fully knows that since the departure of former Lord President Salleh Abbas, confidence in the judiciary has been in question. Due to the climate of fear under the Mahathir administration, the rakyat had kept silent.
Eusoff Chin had been the 'judicial mouthpiece' of the government then and any complaints raised where clearly swept under the carpet. After a few days, a statement would be released that investigations had found no basis for such accusations.
I feel the present government under the leadership of Pak Lah should re-open the investigation into Syed Ahmad Idid complaint and investigate the truth behind it.
If any judge is found guilty or involved in a cover-up for corruption and abuse of power, he should be stripped of all titles, sacked or have their pensions withdrawn. All monies found to be illegally obtained by them should also be confiscated.
This will deter others from abandoning their sacred duty to uphold justice for quick money.
