I would like to correct the apparent misconceptions of some of your readers regarding freedom of religion among Malays as afforded to them by the Federal Malaysian Constitution 1957.
There is no two ways about it. Malays have the freedom to practice their religion which is Islam. The right not given them is the right to choose between religions.
Constitutionally speaking, the only difference between the Malay position and the non-Malay position is that the latter has - additionally - the right to choose between religions.
Freedom is never absolute.
