Ramu Rathkum's poetic letter hits the nail on the head. Instead of any signs of a major revamp, Malaysia is going the band-aid way. The rot and mix of businessmen in politics, crony deals, graft etc is still very much the way of life. It affects every part of the rakyat 's life. From crowded public buses owned by cronies to satellite TV, we are affected in every way. The current ruling elite is interested only in winning elections, not serving te people. In most countries, winning elections is a by-product of serving the people.
Anwar represented a host of young leaders who had the energy and courage to take this country forward into the 21st century. The old guard who fear losing their rice bowls are determined to keep the country in shackles. What I would like to see is a generation of young Malaysians who would stand up for what is right. To stand on the side of integrity and honesty. To speak up and be counted when there is injustice and evil. To look beyond race or religion and to ensure that no Malaysian is detained or beaten up or suffer any form of injustice at the hands of a cruel government.
Will Ramu, a bumiputera, please enlighten me as to why these Muslim leaders would allow such injustices and cruel acts to be meted out against Anwar, who is also a fellow Malay?
