STI Fire Safety Sdn Bhd is a company that specialises in providing a full range of fixed and mobile fire protection systems and services, with a wide range of fire protection system solutions covering project design, supply and installation, service and maintenance, inspection and repair, product sales, material supply, as well as training and system certification by authorised departments.
Philip Quah Lee Hui, Executive Project Director of STI Fire Safety Sdn Bhd, highlights that the company has always been committed to promoting the specialisation of fire protection systems to ensure that fire protection equipment works effectively in emergency situations.
Raising Standards in Fire Safety
He mentioned that in Malaysia's today, as the industry's regulations and standards have matured, the company hopes to meet the safety needs of modern buildings by offering a comprehensive range of fire protection systems.
He admits that building owners often overlooked fire protection systems in the early days, compared to facilities such as air-conditioning , electrical services, and sanitary plumbing. However, in recent years, with the active promotion of fire prevention awareness by the government and the private sector, there has been a marked increase in the public's awareness of fire protection systems.
Integrated Fire Safety Solutions: Customised, Sustainable, and Globally Compliant
Philip Quah Lee Hui said that apart from specialising in the design and installation of fire protection systems, the company also focuses on the integration and sustainability of the systems.
He highlights that STI Fire Safety goes beyond just supplying fire extinguishing equipment; they also integrate smoke detection and smoke control systems, fire alarm systems, and essential components such as passive fire compartment, escape staircases and fire doors. This comprehensive approach ensures that fire spread can be controlled swiftly and effectively when emergencies arise. Such integrated fire protection designs are especially crucial for complex structures, including shopping centers, large corporate offices, and data centers, where safety is paramount.
Navigating Fire Safety Standards
Fire protection systems vary widely between Malaysia and other countries, reflecting distinct safety regulations and requirements. STI Fire Safety is proficient in adapting to these diverse standards, whether they adhere to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines in the United States or local Malaysian regulations. This adaptability positions the company as a leader in designing and implementing high-quality fire protection systems worldwide.
These variations enable STI Fire Safety to deliver customised solutions that not only adhere to local regulations but also uphold the highest safety standards for clients in different regions.
On the other hand, Philip Quah Lee Hui said that in the early days, STI Fire Safety's customer base was mainly from Japan, and then the business gradually expanded to countries such as the US, South Korea, Russia, Sweden, and China, with the US being particularly important.
“STI Fire Safety's business has seen significant growth in recent years, with company revenue of RM22 million in 2020, RM38 million in 2023, and RM70 million in 2024, aiming to cross the RM100 million mark in 2025. The target is feasible as the construction industry in Malaysia continues to grow”.
Speaking about the company's competitive advantage, Ng Han Sheng, Project Director of STI Fire Safety Sdn Bhd, believes that the main differentiator between the company and its peers is its focus on system maintenance and parts repair.
He pointed out that not only do they provide their customers with high-quality fire protection systems, but they also offer comprehensive after-sales support, and that this after-sales service system is what sets them apart in the industry and is the main reason for supporting the company through the COVID-19 outbreak.
“During the epidemic, when most of our construction projects came to a standstill, the company was able to maintain its operations with a strong after-sales service system, and it is fair to say that without after-sales service we could have been at risk of going out of business like other companies. Thanks to our investment in after-sales service, we were still able to provide fire protection maintenance for essential plants and facilities”.
In addition to its business success, STI Fire Safety Sdn Bhd is actively exploring ways to contribute to environmental protection and social responsibility, and in the future plans to invest more resources in the area of sustainability, including promoting the use of more environmentally friendly fire suppression systems and participating in environmental activities in the community.
He mentioned that existing fire protection equipment has been actively promoting the application of environmentally friendly technology, such as the traditional carbon dioxide fire extinguishing system is gradually being replaced by cleaner and more environmentally friendly gases, a new type of gas that not only can extinguish fires effectively, but also does not cause damage to the ozone layer.
“Today's foam fire extinguishing systems have also been converted to be fluorine-free, using safer and more environmentally friendly extinguishing materials to further reduce environmental impact”.
“The company is looking at initiating a number of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs such as participating in beach clean-ups, community beautification and tree planting”.
In response to the current changes, Philip Quah Lee Hui emphasised that the company always encourages innovation and advancement among its employees.
“In today's fast-moving technological environment, especially in the era of artificial intelligence and digitalisation, companies must embrace change. We promote an open and inclusive corporate culture that encourages employees to come up with new ideas, especially valuing the opinions and creativity of the younger generation of employees”.
On the future outlook, he said the company continues to expand its market share and improve on technological innovation and service quality.
“We will continue to strengthen its existing business and actively participate in various certifications and accreditations from the government and industry associations to ensure that it remains at the forefront of the industry, as well as providing more efficient and environmentally friendly fire protection systems to create more value for our customers and the community,” he said.
