As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, future leaders must tackle complex challenges in geopolitics, economics, and ethics with a multidisciplinary mindset.
Taylor’s University’s Bachelor in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) (Honours) is the first programme of its kind in Malaysia. It combines philosophy, politics, and economics to equip graduates with critical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to navigate global and local dynamics. Over three years, students gain a solid foundation in political systems, economic theories, and philosophical principles, preparing them for impactful roles in government, business, and NGOs.
The programme meets the growing demand for professionals who can bridge gaps across industries. Graduates will be well-equipped to adapt to global uncertainties, geopolitical tensions, and evolving economic landscapes, gaining a competitive edge in diverse sectors.
Uniquely Malaysian, Globally Relevant
The programme strikes a delicate balance inspired by the standards of world-renowned institutions with Malaysian perspectives, ensuring graduates are equipped to tackle challenges both locally and globally. This approach allows students to pursue careers in consulting, finance, think tanks, NGOs, public service, and academia, seamlessly across borders and sectors.
Bridging Theory with Practice
A cornerstone of the programme is its strong Industry Advisory Panel (IAP), led by Professor Dr Ong Kian Ming, Taylor’s University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for External Engagement and former Member of Parliament (MP).
The panel includes other distinguished figures such as Keluar Sekejap Podcast Co-host, Former Minister and UMNO Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin, Former MP and Political Secretary to the Finance Minister Tony Pua, The Edge Media Group Executive Chairman Tan Sri Tong Kooi Ong, and University of Nottingham Malaysia Associate Professor, The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Tricia Yeoh, among many others – providing invaluable insights that bridge academic theory with practical application. The IAP ensures that the programme remains closely aligned with the demands of today’s fast-changing job market.
Through regular guest lectures, interactive sessions, and panel discussions, students gain firsthand knowledge of real-world challenges, enhancing their understanding of complex global issues in politics, economics, and business.
“In the longer term, I would like to see the PPE programme evolve into a world-renowned one, which scholars from all over the world would be interested in enrolling in because of its prestige and quality content. Producing quality graduates would be one such way of ensuring it garners the reputation it deserves,” said Dr Tricia Yeoh.
Innovative Pedagogy for Modern Education
The PPE programme integrates the use of cutting-edge teaching tools such as AI chatbox, quantitative analysis software, and policy-focused podcasts, alongside a flexible curriculum that allows students to tailor their studies to specific challenges. Combining solid theoretical foundations with creativity and critical thinking, the programme prepares graduates to lead and innovate in their careers, with a focus on addressing Asian contexts.
A Transformative Pathway for Future Leaders
More than an academic degree, Taylor’s University’s PPE programme is a transformative journey that develops agile, multidisciplinary thinkers who will address the pressing challenges of our time.
"Bridges and beacons. I expect PPE graduates to be the connective tissue in their organisations, bridging departments and disciplines. In their communities, they'll be beacons of informed discourse, elevating local debates with regional and global perspectives. On the national stage, I see them as compass needles, helping to navigate Malaysia through the complex waters of international relations and economic shifts,” said another panel member, Allen Ng, Group Head and Principal Economist at the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO).
For students eager to make an impact in a globalised world, the programme offers an unparalleled opportunity to lead in politics, economics, or ethical decision-making. Additionally, it represents a comprehensive approach to education, designed to prepare graduates for the multifaceted world that lies ahead.
