The International Construction Week (ICW) and the Malaysia International Building and Construction Industry Exhibition (BuildXpo) 2024 will highlight cutting-edge technologies, including Building Information Modeling (BIM), drones, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and smart building innovations, reflecting the construction industry's transition towards technological advancement.

ICW and BuildXpo 2024 offer a comprehensive platform for learning, innovation, and business opportunities for all participants in the construction industry - Mohd Zaid

"These technologies can significantly enhance productivity and efficiency in construction projects," stated Dato’ Sr Mohd Zaid Zakaria, CEO of CIDB.

With the theme of “Envisioning the Future of Construction”, this event drives the digital transformation of the Malaysian construction industry, and focuses on innovation, modernization, and international collaboration to underscore the global character of the contemporary construction industry and highlight the significance of cross-border partnerships in shaping its future.

The event will feature a range of new technologies and products, such as BIM for project visualization, drone technology for site monitoring and material delivery, AI applications for construction management, robotics for various construction tasks, smart building technologies, augmented and virtual reality solutions, advanced sensors for building monitoring, and thermal imaging technology.

Mohd Zaid emphasized that BuildXpo provides a platform for companies to explore and integrate the latest innovations, thereby improving productivity and competitiveness.

ICW 2024 will also spotlight green building technologies, sustainable materials, and eco-friendly construction practices, including nano paint technology designed for temperature regulation and carbon dioxide absorption. The partnership with the Malaysia Green Building Council (MGBC) underscores a strong commitment to sustainable construction methodologies.

Additionally, the event will feature conferences such as the Future Cities Summit and Construction Outlook Summit, along with youth programs, competitions, and TVET Construction exhibitions aimed at identifying and attracting new talent while addressing workforce challenges.

For local companies, this event presents an opportunity to showcase their products and services to the international market, with participation from at least ten global markets. The International Sourcing Programme (INSP) is specifically designed to facilitate business opportunities with international buyers and it is expected to discuss sustainability issues within the industry.

“Overall, ICW and BuildXpo 2024 delivers a robust platform for learning, innovation, and business opportunities for all stakeholders in the construction industry”, added Mohd Zaid.

The Malaysian construction industry faces several key challenges that need to be addressed for continued growth and competitiveness. These include sustainability, supply chain disruptions, regulatory approvals, safety, and risk management. The sector also struggles with adapting to new technologies, a shortage of skilled labor, and demands for improved productivity and efficiency.

Scheduled for October 22nd, 2024, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), ICW and BuildXpo 2024 plays a vital role in enabling the Malaysian construction industry to address contemporary challenges and prepare for a more sustainable and competitive future.
