A total of 150 students from the (Hospitality Operations Certificate) course, at Kolej Komuniti Hulu Selangor participated in the "Young FutureMakers Malaysia Career Progression Map" programme organised by Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in collaboration with the International Labor Organization (ILO) and SOCSO.
This program was held to give exposure to students on the career opportunities available in the food service field specifically in (Barista, Restaurant Management and Bakery & Pastry). In addition to the job scope, the map provides detailed information on each qualifications, basic and technical skills, benefits and salary estimation based on the 3 scopes.
“Through this program, participants who are interested in the food service field will be able to map out their career path and make it a reality. Whether you’re a student or a recent graduate it’s never too early or too late to start planning your career path. I would like to express my appreciation to the ILO and UTHM for choosing Kolej Komuniti Hulu Selangor as one of your roadshow location for the "Career Progression Map” programme," said Siti Norihan Binti Mohammad, Deputy Director of Management (TPP) of Hulu Selangor Community College.
Youth have to adapt in the dynamic food service industry
"Young Futuremakers" marks a significant milestone for ILO, showcasing its dedication to equipping young individuals with essential skills for the dynamic food services sector. Emphasising the importance of keeping pace with evolving employment landscapes, Zharif Badrul, Coordinator of the ILO Young Futuremakers Malaysia Project, highlighted that the career progression map will be updated from time to time.
"The food service sector offers wide career prospects as its workforce is in high demand in industries such as catering, hotels, resorts, restaurants, and convention centres. Students in this field can also venture into entrepreneurship in the future if interested, as they are exposed to entrepreneurial modules and guidance during their studies."
"From the beginning, we have had many industry experts providing input in this project, such as Gapurna Permai Sdn. Bhd. (GPSB), Costa Coffee Café, Xofi.Trg Café, Secret Recipes, QSR Brands, the Social Security Organization (PERKESO), and several other educational institutions such as IIMAT College, Breyer College, and community colleges," said Dr. Mohd Zulfadli, Senior Lecturer, Department of Graduate Studies, UTHM.
MyFutureJobs Portal
In addition to the career map, students from Hulu Selangor Community College also have the opportunity to hear from the Social Security Organization (PERKESO) Malaysia about the MyFutureJobs portal, which was created to assist Malaysian citizens in finding jobs that match their skills and interests.
