Bringing a new era of politics, breaking barriers and fighting for real change.

The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) will be fielding a total of 19 candidates in the upcoming state elections.

In Bandar Utama, MUDA is resting its hopes on the shoulders of Abe Lim, an environmentalist and sustainability advocate. She is currently founder and CEO of Purpose Plastics, and Board Member of the Next Generation Board for ClientEarth Org.

“I see great opportunity for Bandar Utama to be leaders in the areas of people-first urban planning, for example the PJD Link project needs to have more transparency. We need to declassify the project agreement so the public has a say. Bandar Utama’s traffic congestion also needs to be addressed so the residents do not have to spend hours in the traffic. Until the full documents are released, the disrespectful act of not informing the people still exists in future projects”

“Secondly is the holistic environment. Bandar Utama needs more green spaces. Give people the parks, and the urban gardens to make them happy and enjoy living in Bandar Utama. Giving them these places of leisure ensures that public health is taken care of and people are happy. We also need our spaces to be safe. We cannot have stray animals roaming around and wait for someone to get bitten and then take action. Issues like stray animals need to be addressed with the Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage method. Not only is this more humane but controls and eventually reduces the number of strays. This creates a safer and healthier environment,” she said.

“When it comes to structured governance, the MBPJ councillors should be elected not appointed. With an elected leader in MBPJ, the public can hold them accountable if they do not carry out their duties. A structured governance gives people back their power. Unfortunately, all of this isn't living up to its true potential. That is why I have decided to run for ADUN at N36 Bandar Utama in the upcoming state elections, representing MUDA,” she said.

Being a newcomer in a three-way race

The battle for Bandar Utama will not be an easy one for the 27-year-old as she is set to face DAP’s Jamaliah Jamaluddin and Gerakan’s Aliff Taufid.

Despite being considered an underdog, Abe has expressed confidence in winning the support of the people in the constituency. She said it is crucial for voters to have an alternative voice to solve their issues.

“By listening, we can develop policies and initiatives that truly address their needs while building a thriving economy and safeguarding our environment,” she added.

Running the nation's first green political campaign for the Selangor state elections

“My approach for this campaign is following the inverted pyramid method, the problems that I want to solve now if not dealt with will cause environmental issues. If we do not address the traffic and the highway project, our air pollution will end up being more worse”

“A sustainable Bandar Utama is also about creating a community where everyone feels heard and represented. We need to work together towards a future that not only sustains our physical environment but also nurtures a strong and cohesive society. I will ensure that every individual in Bandar Utama plays an integral role in shaping our shared future if elected,” Lim added

Lim said her first action as Bandar Utama’s assemblyman is to come up with an urban planning framework if she is elected.

Every vote counts, even for state elections

“Everytime you vote for somebody, you are giving your power to them to speak and represent for you hence it is important to vote wisely. Being Malaysians it is our responsibility to cast our votes,” she said.

The Election Commission has fixed polling for the state elections in Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan on August 12.
