IUMW Dual Award Programmes Give Students an Invaluable Global Education

UK education is renowned for its quality. It enables students to become the most confident and prepared version of themselves to pursue their careers.

If you want a UK education that is affordable, a Dual Award degree offered by the International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW) could be the choice for you. You come away with the same award, quality and academic value for a much more affordable price.

IUMW offers Dual Award degree programmes in collaboration with their UK partner, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), and is owned by Universiti Malaya (UM) and the University of Wales (UW). From foundation to postgraduate programmes, they specialise in Business, Communication, Technology, Science, and Psychology.

Quality Guaranteed

It is no doubt that UK degrees are recognised worldwide as some of the best. Internationally acclaimed for their creative and challenging syllabus, you get a quality education and better career prospects, especially if you are looking to join a global firm upon graduation.

“To develop the Dual Award programmes, IUMW works together with the UWTSD to construct and monitor the coursework, syllabus and learning modules”, explains IUMW Vice Chancellor Professor. Dr. Kamila Ghazali.

“Our students can be assured of the strength and quality of their degree as the courses are structured, monitored and assessed by two different institutions – both IUMW and UWTSD”.

International Perspective

In today’s working environment, an international perspective is crucial, as is the ability to work with others from different cultures and backgrounds. Professor Kamila believes this is one of the reasons that makes the Dual Award programmes so popular and effective.

“Students are interested in our programmes because they are different. They get to benefit from meaningful global learning opportunities that will help them when they enter the workforce. Graduates who can work in a global environment and lead a diverse team will be in demand as more and more companies, particularly post-pandemic, are forming teams stretching across different continents.”

An example of such opportunities was the competition organised by IUMW, UWTSD and the UK organisation, the Harmonious Entrepreneurship Society. The business-idea-themed competition saw three student teams from IUMW win the top 3 places, with the winning team taking away £2,000 and expert support to take their business idea forward with a UK firm Circklo, which specialise in digital start-ups for the circular economy.

Global Expertise

IUMW has incredible academics from Malaysia, professors who are experts in their fields, as well as accomplished academics from the UK who teach their dual award modules.

This collaborative teaching gives students an invaluable learning experience that they might not get with a more traditional degree. Professor Kamila shares the benefits for students who are taught by renowned academics from IUMW and UWTSD as part of the Dual Award collaborative teaching efforts.

“This broadens the scope of the teaching process by including international perspectives and bringing in-depth expertise to the learning experience. Modules taught by UWTSD lecturers provide a diverse range of teaching techniques and international expertise to the classroom. This way, students can experience the best of both worlds”

Student Experience

IUMW psychology graduate Tanjina Ashraf Khan Mou knew why she wanted a dual award degree, and values the experience it gave her.“I studied for a dual award because I knew it would distinguish my resume from the rest. I also got to experience the graduation ceremony at UWTSD in the UK, as IUMW students are invited to that too. I met all the professors and so many other new people - plus the venue was amazing. I tell other students to go for it - I had a great experience, and now I have a UK degree!”

A dual award degree is an educational model that marks a different mindset — one that can meet the rapidly evolving needs of a new economy.
