KUALA LUMPUR, 15 JANUARY 2025 – McDonald’s Malaysia continues its long-standing tradition of giving back to the community this Chinese New Year, spreading joy and fostering connections with elderly residents from almost 120 old folks’ homes across the country. Introduced in 2017 and now in its 9th consecutive year, McDonald’s Malaysia’s Chinese New Year celebrations with old folks’ homes have become a cherished annual event.
On 14 January 2025, McDonald’s Malaysia hosted a grand Chinese New Year celebration at McDonald’s Pantai Sentral Park, welcoming elderly residents from selected old folks’ homes. The event was filled with joyful activities, including a prosperous tossing of McDonald’s Prosperity Lou-Lou curly fries, captivating music and dance performances, a traditional lion dance, and a spread of McDonald’s Prosperity meals.
In line with the McDonald’s prosperity campaign, McDonald’s Malaysia continues to champion the values of prosperity through community and shared moments. The celebrations embody the spirit of prosperity – a reminder that prosperity is not just about material wealth, but the joy and connections we share with one another.
“The celebration of Chinese New Year is a time of togetherness, joy, and gratitude. At McDonald’s Malaysia, we take immense pride in bringing smiles to the elderly and sharing in their celebrations. This initiative underscores our dedication to creating meaningful moments and spreading the true spirit of Chinese New Year. By embracing the values of prosperity, we celebrate the value in friendships, relationships, and shared joy,” said Dato’ Haji Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner, McDonald's Malaysia.
As part of its broader celebration, McDonald’s Malaysia also warmly decorated four selected restaurants – McDonald’s Bandar Sri Damansara and McDonald’s Pantai Sentral Park in Kuala Lumpur, McDonald’s Kota Laksamana in Melaka, and McDonald’s Greenlane in Penang. These restaurants were adorned with traditional Chinese New Year decorations, including colourful lanterns and festive greetings, providing a vibrant atmosphere for the community and serving as memorable photo opportunities for customers.
Beyond Chinese New Year, McDonald’s Malaysia has had the privilege of organising various community initiatives across different festive occasions, including the Mid-Autumn Festival, Ramadan, and Hari Raya. These celebrations, along with McDonald’s Community Month every October, are highlights of the year. During Community Month, McDonald’s Malaysia hosts birthday celebrations for orphans in more than 400 orphanages across the country.
Additionally, this year, McDonald’s Malaysia is going beyond the elderly community by working with its charity of choice, RMHC Malaysia, to celebrate Chinese New Year with underprivileged children across the country. Special celebrations have been organised to bring festive cheer to these children, featuring exciting activities and delicious meals.
This initiative is part of the company’s commitment under Komuniti @ McDonald’s Program, which sees McDonald’s Malaysia carrying out more than 10,000 community initiatives annually. Through meaningful initiatives like these, McDonald’s Malaysia continues to uphold its brand philosophy of delivering not just delicious food but feel-good moments to the community.
