KPJ Penang’s new block reaffirms KPJ Healthcare’s commitment to expanding its healthcare infrastructure and introducing advanced technologies, reinforcing its role as a leader in Malaysia’s private healthcare sector.
With an increase in bed capacity from 193 to 319, the expansion allows KPJ Penang to accommodate more patients and streamline its operations, ensuring timely, high-quality care for the community.
Equipped with the Cryo-7 Cryotherapy Technology that remains exclusive to KPJ Penang in the state, the new block offers a specialised system designed to reduce pain and inflammation through cool air during the recovery process. It also features advanced Hand Robotic Rehabilitation Services, providing precision-focused therapy to support improved mobility and recovery outcomes.
KPJ Penang’s expansion aligns with Malaysia’s growing health tourism sector, positioning the hospital as a trusted destination for international patients seeking high-quality care. The hospital’s advanced facilities, combined with its Telemedicine Command Service for efficient international patient coordination, enhance its appeal to healthcare travellers while contributing to regional economic growth.
In conjunction with the launch, KPJ Penang also introduced its ‘Program Sekolah Angkat’ initiative, adopting SMK Pendidikan Khas Bumbong Lima, a school for students with special needs. Through this programme, the hospital will sponsor hearing aids, provide free hearing assessments and offer annual maintenance for hearing devices to support the disabled community. This initiative is part of KPJ Group’s broader commitment to strengthening its corporate responsibility, with the deaf community as one of the key focus groups for 2025. In line with this, KPJ Healthcare also plans to expand sign language training for its staff and develop new healthcare-related sign language terms to enhance accessibility
Speaking at the launch, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Ismail Bakar, Chairman of KPJ Healthcare said, "The launch of this new wing is a testament to KPJ Healthcare’s efforts to prioritise patient-centric care. With this expansion, KPJ Penang is now able to treat more patients, supported by increased bed capacity and modern facilities such as Hand Robotic Rehabilitation and Cryo-7 Therapy. Through initiatives like the 'Program Sekolah Angkat,' KPJ reaffirms its commitment to making healthcare more inclusive and accessible, with plans to expand sign language training and enhance communication for the disabled community."
The launch ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang; Dato' Dr. Mohamad bin Abdul Hamid, Deputy Chief Minister of Penang 1; Dato' Sri Suriani Binti Dato' Ahmad, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health Malaysia; members of KPJ’s Board of Directors; and Chin Keat Chyuan, President and Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare, among others.
Since 2003, KPJ Penang has maintained its prestigious Joint Commission International (“JCI”) accreditation, underscoring its commitment to global standards in quality and patient safety. With this new expansion, KPJ Penang strengthens its position as a preferred healthcare partner in Malaysia, delivering innovative solutions, supporting community health and advancing the country’s medical tourism aspirations.
