ECX 2024: Malaysian E-Commerce Entrepreneurs Embark on a Transformative Innovation Journey to Shanghai

The Selangor E-Commerce Xcellerator ECX24 International Innovation Trip, organised by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy (Sidec), successfully concluded on 7th December 2024 after a week-long immersion in Shanghai, China. Designed to empower Malaysian startups with global exposure, the program provided a unique opportunity for the Top 10 ECX24 Winners to engage with world-class innovation ecosystems, industry leaders and emerging business trends.

Over the course of the trip, participants experienced a combination of industry visits, expert workshops, and hands-on learning sessions. Key highlights included a visit to ChatPlus AI HQ, where participants explored AI-powered solutions for enhancing customer engagement across major platforms like Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok. Additionally, exclusive tours of Douyin’s Livestream Rooms and top-tier warehouses, including the cutting-edge NIKE Automatic Warehouse in Suzhou, showcased innovative operational efficiencies and logistics advancements.

A significant portion of the program was hosted by Bytedance (parent company of TikTok and Douyin), where participants attended tailored workshops. These sessions covered topics such as TikTok Shop Business Trends, Douyin Livestream Success Strategies, and best practices for multi-channel network (MCN) and affiliate partner management. These insights provided participants with practical strategies to optimize their businesses and navigate the evolving e-commerce landscape.

Networking played a vital role throughout the trip, with participants connecting with key business leaders and government officials. A formal dinner with Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor provided a platform for fostering collaborations and celebrating Selangor’s entrepreneurial achievements. Additionally, visits to MATRADE Shanghai and Plug & Play Shanghai offered participants valuable insights into market entry strategies and the Chinese innovation ecosystem.
