JOHOR BAHRU, 2 DECEMBER 2024 - Batik Air proudly announces the commencement of its inaugural direct flight connecting Johor Bahru to Bangkok, introducing an exciting new travel opportunity for passengers in southern Malaysia.

This route expansion marks Batik Air’s latest commitment to enhancing cross-border connectivity and supporting tourism and business travel between Malaysia and Thailand.

The inaugural flight from Don Mueang International Airport, Bangkok, received a warm welcome upon its arrival at Senai International Airport yesterday, marking a strengthened connection between these two vibrant cities.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Johor Unity, Heritage, and Culture Committee Chairman YB Tuan Raven Kumar Krishnasamy; Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn. Bhd. Chief Executive Officer Kennedy Ayu; Director of Tourism Johor Shahril Nizam Abdul Rahim; and Tourism Malaysia International Promotion Division (ASEAN) Director Mohd Roslan Abdullah.

Batik Air Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, said that the direct connection to Bangkok represents a significant milestone in Batik Air’s strategic expansion into key ASEAN destinations.

“The Johor Bahru–Bangkok route is expected to benefit Johor’s economy significantly by fostering new opportunities for tourism, trade, and investment. The enhanced connectivity positions Johor Bahru as an accessible gateway for international visitors arriving in Malaysia and encourages increased tourism spending within Johor,” he said, adding that Johor’s hospitality and retail sectors stand to gain as Thai tourists and regional business travellers explore the city’s attractions, shop, and dine locally.

Director of Tourism Johor, Sharil Nizam Abdul Rahim, stated that for Thailand’s business community, this route provides a valuable connection to Johor Bahru and the Johor Singapore Economic Zone (JSEZ), a major business hub in Southeast Asia, facilitating smoother trade and investment ventures.

“The direct access to Senai allows Thai-based entrepreneurs to explore business partnerships, strengthen regional ties, and engage in new collaborative ventures across industries,” he said, adding that tourists can also look forward to leisure travel in Johor, which offers an unforgettable blend of modernity and heritage.

Travellers can experience everything from historical sites, such as the Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim, to theme parks like Legoland Malaysia, as well as world-renowned shopping and dining.

“With the convenience of this new route, travellers can look forward to shorter travel times, making Johor Bahru more accessible for weekend getaways, family vacations, and corporate meetings,” he added.

Chief Executive Officer of Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn. Bhd., Kennedy Ayu said that the daily flights to Bangkok by Batik Air align with Senai International Airport’s commitment to cater to the growing demand for international travel, whether for business or leisure.

“As one of our longest-standing airline partners, we are delighted that Batik Air has introduced this additional direct route from Johor Bahru to Bangkok. This also reinforces Senai International Airport’s position as a key gateway to the Southern Region, and we look forward to fostering greater regional connectivity,” he said.

The Johor Bahru–Bangkok route will operate daily with seven flights per week on Batik Air’s Boeing 737, offering both Economy and Business Class cabins for a comfortable and flexible travel experience.
