TAIWAN SELECT, a global branding initiative created to promote Taiwanese food, together with Malaysia’s premier retailer AEON, has established a collaboration to provide a platform for Taiwanese food products to Malaysian consumers nationwide.
TAIWAN SELECT is heavily advocated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) in Taiwan.
In order to attract consumers towards buying Taiwanese products, special TAIWAN SELECT zones were created in August this year to promote Taiwanese mochi and sauces across selected AEON supermarkets in Malaysia.
Following the success of these promotional zones, TAIWAN SELECT is stepping up its efforts with a series of promotional activities in AEON supermarkets from the 22nd to the 26th of November to further ignite the passion for Taiwanese food.
Many popular Taiwanese delicacies, such as pineapple tarts, fermented bean curd, vegetarian meat floss, brown sugar, and rice vermicelli, have been brought together under the banner of TAIWAN SELECT to expand the reach of these delicious offerings in Malaysia.
These TAIWAN SELECT zones have become dedicated showcases at AEON supermarkets in Mid Valley, Cheras Selatan, and Bukit Tinggi, and have received an enthusiastic response since the moment they hit the shelves.
To further increase awareness of Taiwanese food, TAIWAN SELECT will be holding a special five-day event in the above-mentioned AEON branches to promote more than 160 selected products from 45 Taiwanese food companies.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia Director of Economic Division James Chang said they are striving to provide food products with halal certifications by working closely with JAKIM or affiliates related to JAKIM to reach out to more Muslim consumers.
“Currently, there are more than 1,000 Taiwanese companies that have received halal certification from JAKIM or other JAKIM authorised organisations. Taiwan is one of the top 3 destinations for Muslim tourists so we understand the importance of having halal certified products. We hope that the halal certification will help the Taiwanese products reach the Muslim community,” said Chang at the TAIWAN SELECT promotional event at AEON supermarket in Bukit Tinggi on Friday.
He added that Taiwan has long been committed to creating not only innovative and delicious food but also food safety and quality. The selected products not only cater to local tastes but provide an excellent snapshot of Taiwan’s rich food culture.
As part of the promotional campaign, the organisers have invited renowned Malaysian cake artist Shaun Teo to create a towering Taiwanese inspired fondant cake that stands over 100cm tall. The cake will incorporate many TAIWAN SELECT products such as mochi, egg rolls, mango ice and other delicacies, presented in the form of mystery boxes.
The organisers also plan to expand its reach next year (2025) to the United States, Japan, Singapore and other regions to increase the global presence of TAIWAN SELECT. The organisers will work with international food distributors to procure products suitable for each market and help put Taiwanese products on shelves around the world.
The TAIWAN SELECT zones at the Mid Valley, Cheras Selatan and Bukit Tinggi will run until the end of the year, providing consumers with ample opportunity to enjoy a wide range of high-quality Taiwanese delicacies. Whether you're a fan of Taiwanese cuisine or curious to explore more, this is an unmissable chance to experience the authentic taste of Taiwan firsthand.
