The signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Malaysia, represented by the Ministry of Health (MOH), and Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) for the Cardiovascular Prevention Continuous Medical Education (CME) Program was held yesterday, 19 November 2024, at the Auditorium of Institut Jantung Negara, Kuala Lumpur.

The ceremony was officiated by YBhg. Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi bin Abu Hassan, Director-General of Health, and YBhg. Datuk Dr. Norhayati binti Rusli, Deputy Director-General of Health (Public Health), representing the MOH. IJN was represented by YBhg. Prof. Dato' Sri Dr. Mohamed Ezani Md Taib, Chief Executive Officer, and YBhg. Dato’ Akmal Arief bin Mohamed Fauzi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, with YB Dato’ Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Deputy Minister of Health, YBhg Dato’ Sri Suriani Dato’ Ahmad, Secretary General Ministry of Health, and YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Chairman of Institut Jantung Negara, witnessing the event.

This MoU signifies a collaboration between MOH and IJN to provide the Cardiovascular Prevention Continuous Medical Education (CME) Program for healthcare professionals in both public health clinics and private practices. This initiative is part of IJN’s efforts to establish Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Clinics (CRRC) within communities.

The Cardiovascular Prevention CME Program aligns with the First Pillar of the Malaysian Health White Paper, which is aimed a “Transforming Health Service Delivery.” This pillar includes systematic and structured improvements related to healthcare service delivery. Among the proposed strategies are prioritizing primary healthcare delivery and enhancing effective public-private partnerships. Thus, this collaboration is highly aligned with the objectives and aspirations of the Malaysian Health White Paper.

The Cardiovascular Prevention CME Program involves structured training over three years to meet current needs in the primary healthcare system in addressing the increasing cases of non-communicable diseases such as dyslipidemia, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.

The target audience includes family medicine specialists, medical officers, private medical practitioners, pharmacists, nurses, dietitians, and physiotherapists. Phase 1 of the program will be implemented over one year and comprises 10 modules conducted online.

This will be followed by Phase 2, spanning two years, which includes case presentations, case discussions, forums, and field visits.

This MoU symbolizes a strategic partnership between the MOH and IJN to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery for patients at MOH facilities and for the Malaysian public at large.
