Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Tay Chin Kin, a compassionate philanthropist, has been a steadfast supporter of the CHKMUS Maaedicare Charity Dialysis Centre, a lifeline for over 212 individuals battling kidney disease.
The CHKMUS Maaedicare Charity Dialysis Centre is a collaborative initiative between the CHKMUS Kidney Foundation and the Maaedicare Charitable Foundation.
Since its inception in 1998 and subsequent expansion in 2010, the centre has become a sanctuary of hope and healing, positively impacting the lives of over 1,000 dialysis patients.
Driven by a deep sense of empathy, Dato’ Tay, the Chairman of CHKMUS Kidney Foundation believes in the power of collaboration. His partnership with the Maaedicare Charitable Foundation has been instrumental in enhancing the centre's capabilities.
It all began in 1991, with him travelling to Taiwan to visit a friend suffering from kidney failure. Upon his friend's visit to Malaysia, Dato’ Tay witnessed first-hand the struggles of his friend securing a dialysis appointment, as it was only available in government and private hospitals, often with lengthy wait times and exorbitant costs.
This transformative experience ignited a deep passion within Dato’ Tay to create meaningful change. Recognising the urgent need for accessible dialysis care, he envisioned a dialysis centre dedicated to serving the local community in Kuching.
This compassionate initiative marked the beginning of a vital service that not only now provides essential dialysis treatment for individuals battling kidney disease but also fosters a supportive environment where patients can feel understood and valued.
By ensuring that no one faces their health challenges alone, Dato’ Tay has helped to build a community of hope and resilience for those in need, in Kuching.
“Supporting these dialysis patients’ goes beyond just medical treatment; it’s about restoring their dignity and giving them hope. Every patient deserves access to quality care, and I am dedicated to ensuring that we meet their needs through CHKMUS’ partnership with Maaedicare,’’ he shared.
His commitment extends beyond financial support; Dato’ Tay invests his time to personally connect with patients twice a month. He believes that by understanding their challenges and offering words of encouragement, he is able to cultivate a supportive environment that empowers them to face their health journeys with resilience and hope.
“By gaining first-hand insight into their daily struggles, I believe we can deliver the best possible care. It is my personal mission to enhance their quality of life, and we are dedicated to achieving this by providing not only medical treatment but also essential support, including subsidies for medical supplements and groceries,’’ he added.
Anne Rajasaikaran, Chief Executive Officer of Maaedicare Charitable Foundation, conveys her deep appreciation for Dato’ Tay's steadfast support.
"His contributions have significantly enhanced our capabilities at the CHKMUS Maaedicare Charity Dialysis Centre, allowing us to expand our services and reach more patients in need.
“Dato’ Tay's dedication not only elevates our operational capacity but also inspires our team and the community to rally around this vital cause. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of dialysis patients in Kuching," she remarked.
