PUTRAJAYA: IOI Properties Group Berhad (“IOIPG”) joined hands with Majlis Perbandaran Sepang (“MPS”) to engage the community with a quadruple dose of excitement for families and friends at 16 Sierra, Puchong South. The day’s festivities included the Costume Fun Run & Fun Day@Central Park by IOIPG, as well as Karnival Komuniti Mampan@Sepang & Car Free Day by MPS.
Graced by the presence of MPS President Dato’ Haji Abd Hamid bin Hussain, the mega-celebration drew more than 1,500 members of the public to experience the signature township’s expansive green spaces, integrated streetscapes and lifestyle amenities. The day’s exciting line-up of activities included a colouring contest and musical fun walk at Karnival Komuniti Mampan@Sepang & Car Free Day, organised by MPS to promote greener lifestyles and sustainable practices among the public, while Fun Day@Central Park by IOIPG included a Cardio Dance Workout, petting zoo by IOI City Farm, Snap & Win contest, e-Bike rides and more.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Majlis Perbandaran Sepang in promoting community engagement through the Karnival Komuniti Mampan@Sepang & Car Free Day initiatives. Events like these showcase the walkable, bikeable and lifestyle oriented sustainable township we are building here at 16 Sierra,” said Teh Chin Guan, Group Chief Operating Officer, IOIPG.
“As one of Malaysia’s top developers and nation builders, we strive to bring the community together with fun and interactive sessions on the ground. With more Malaysians prioritising health and fitness, we tried to kick things up a notch with the Costume Fun Run, where runners are encouraged to run in their favourite outfits or character costumes. From superheroes to movie and cartoon icons, participants showcased their creativity and craft while enjoying everything the township has to offer. We complemented this with Fun Day@Central Park, where we bring the 16 Sierra community as well as people from all walks of life together to enjoy a day of fun in the sun while showcasing the park’s upgraded facilities,” he added.
Costume Fun Run through 16 Sierra’s interconnected, pedestrian-friendly streetscapes
The Costume Fun Run kicked off the day with warm-up exercises and flag-off from Sierra Fresco, the township’s 10.6-acre commercial hub with a street mall concept featuring curated brands such as Village Grocer, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Anytime Fitness.
The run included 5km and 10km fun routes, with both routes passing through 16 Sierra’s residential precincts to end at the township’s recently upgraded Central Park. Participants enjoyed personal accident insurance with entry, along with a race bib, event jersey, e-certificate, light refreshments and medals for finishers. The Costume Fun Run drew more than 1,000 runners.
Upgraded Central Park with pet-friendly zone, Rainbow Park, sands play zone, nearby pickleball court, upcoming skate park and more
“The Central Park was first opened in 2010 as a communal green space bringing residents and visitors together to enjoy the outdoors. As 16 Sierra matured and more families moved in, we have taken the initiative to upgrade the facilities and introduce new amenities to better serve the growing community and residents’ needs,” said Calvin Sew, General Manager, 16 Sierra.
“Today, we have added a pet-friendly zone equipped with a challenge course where people can bring their furbabies to have fun, along with wider jogging and cycling paths, bicycle parking nodes, exercise stations for seniors and adults, a rainbow park, viewing deck and sand pits play area, and enhanced amphitheatre, futsal and basketball facilities, as well as an outdoor badminton court to complement our indoor courts at Amigo Clubhouse. Other features include our park gazebos, which we have upgraded with more comfortable and sustainable seating, as well as Instagram hotspots, such as our rainbow park arch and decorated trellis, for the social media savvy to shoot and share. Visitors can also enjoy the new pickleball courts nearby with a café next door for a quick bite or drink after play, and look forward to an upcoming skate park,” he added.
As part of IOIPG’s focus on sustainability, 16 Sierra’s Central Park was enhanced with 29 solar-powered lights for patrons’ safety and illumination, as well as 25 new recyclable benches. The new park gazebos also utilise solar-powered lighting. In addition, a bioswale drainage system was implemented to improve existing drainage and reduce erosion while filtering out pollutants and safeguarding groundwater, in line with biophilic design principles.
With complimentary entry for the public, the Fun Day@Central Park included free half-day admission to the gymnasium, pool and badminton court at 16 Sierra’s Amigo Clubhouse, as well as promotional rates for members of the public keen on signing up for membership. Outdoor enthusiasts also enjoyed teepee tent viewings at The Tribe Glamping, the township’s urban nature retreat with furnishings on par with boutique hotels.
Other attractions included a lifestyle bazaar with 29 stalls. In addition, the event’s Snap & Win contest encouraged participants to take part in a photo treasure hunt, where they could snap photos of items at specific locations throughout 16 Sierra, complete tasks and share their photos to claim a mystery gift.
Visitors were also invited to try complimentary e-Bike rides, an initiative by IOIPG to encourage green transportation alternatives in support of the Car Free Day initiative by MPS.
