The Selangor Halal International Convention (SELHAC 2024) has kicked off its third edition at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, running alongside the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS). This year's theme, Vitalising Halal Ecosystems, aims to strengthen Selangor’s role as a global leader in the halal industry by bringing together business leaders, experts, and policymakers.

Supporting Halal Industry Development

SELHAC 2024 provides a platform for businesses and industry professionals to collaborate and expand the halal ecosystem across various sectors. The event includes business matching sessions, an exhibition, and seminars, all designed to encourage growth and knowledge sharing within the halal market.

The focus this year is on three key areas which are speeding up halal certification, embracing digital innovation in halal, and improving the halal supply chain.

More than 80 companies are participating, including halal product exhibitors, financial institutions, government agencies, and international trade bodies. This provides excellent opportunities for businesses to expand and reach global markets.

Key Announcements and Innovations

Selangor hosts 33% of Malaysia’s 9,436 active halal-certified businesses - Amirudin Shari

Selangor’s Chief Minister, Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari, highlighted in his speech that Selangor is home to 33% of Malaysia’s 9,436 active halal certificate holders. He stressed the importance of increasing the number of halal-certified businesses to stay competitive globally and contribute to Selangor’s economic growth.

A key feature of SELHAC 2024 is the launch of the Certificate Readiness Assessment (CRA), a system that helps businesses speed up the halal certification process by assessing their readiness and providing clear cost and timeline estimates.

Expanding Global Halal Reach

Fahmi highlighted Selangor’s active partnerships with international markets, including Japan, the USA, Dubai, Korea, China, and Vietnamas these collaborations are designed to enhance knowledge exchange and drive the global growth of halal businesses

YB Dr. Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, Selangor Executive Councillor for Islamic Affairs and Innovation Culture, emphasized Selangor’s ongoing partnerships with international markets such as Japan, the USA, Dubai, Korea, China, and Vietnam. These collaborations aim to boost knowledge sharing and promote the growth of halal businesses worldwide.

10 participants from the UPLATS programme received starter kits to manage their halal businesses

In addition, 10 participants from the UPLATS Halal programme, managed by Menteri Besar (Incorporated) (MBI), were given starter kits to help them develop their halal businesses.

SELHAC 2024 promises to equip businesses with strategies and resources to succeed in the increasingly competitive halal market, setting a strong foundation for the industry’s future growth.
