From 2021 to 2023, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) investigated a staggering 8,011 phone scam cases, resulting in total financial losses exceeding RM440 million? Alarmingly, 448 of these cases involved the impersonation of Pos Laju personnel, causing losses of over RM27 million.
In 2024 alone, up until July, there have been significant concerns with 87 cases of Pos Laju impersonation, causing losses of nearly RM3 million. These troubling figures highlight the urgent need for enhanced security measures to combat the growing threat of phone scams.
In response to this crisis, PDRM, Pos Malaysia and Whoscall have teamed up under Whoscall's national #ScamFreeMalaysia initiative to strengthen efforts against parcel scams. This collaboration follows the successful first phase of the campaign with PDRM in 2023.
What’s Happening?
Whoscall joined forces with Pos Malaysia to advance the #ScamFreeMalaysia initiative. This partnership is endorsed by PDRM and involves registering all operational numbers from Pos Malaysia, including those used by postmen, as 'verified numbers' on the Whoscall app. This means that Whoscall users will receive trusted notifications for calls and SMS from Pos Malaysia, significantly reducing the risk of falling victim to phone scams, especially parcel scams.
