The Malaysia Commercialisation Year (MCY) Summit 2024, with the theme “Leading The Regional Innovation,” was held on 12 and 13 August 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This summit aims to celebrate and accelerate the commercialisation of research, development and innovation (R&D&I) in Malaysia, driving the nation toward becoming a regional leader in innovation.
Over the two days, various activities were organised including panel sessions, power talks, satellite events, the exhibition of local R&D&I products and social entrepreneurship and business matching opportunities organised by MRANTI with over 10 investors. This summit was attended by a total of 8,000 participants.
The second day covered the launch of The Grand Robotics Engineering And Technology (GREAT) Challenge. This challenge is an initiative under the Industrial Technology Innovation Center (ITIC) program and aims to accelerate the innovation process by providing a robotics technology platform to participants to showcase their innovation talents.
Renewcell introduced an innovative solution that extends battery life by encouraging reuse and only disposing of it when it reaches end of life (EoL). This reduces battery costs and waste as well as CO2 emissions. Other than battery management, Renewcell also introduced a system - BATTMAMA - Battery Management & Maintenance System, an advanced monitoring system that warns of battery issues and provides action recommendations. BATTMAMA helps users make more accurate decisions in battery management.
Additionally, Snaptec was there with their Aurra Smart IOT Water Dispensers, a Special KPI product of MCY 2023. This water filter is expected to be able to save energy by 50% compared to traditional compressor-based systems. The filter is also equipped with a smart IoT system that enables hydration tracking, easy billing, as well as access to the Snaptec Care Control System. In line with IR 4.0, this product is targeted at local and international markets.
D Athirah Magic Ruler (DMR) won the MCY 2023 Social Entrepreneur Award. This product is an innovative tool for tailors that combines several essential rulers into one garment sewing ruler. DMR saves sewing time by providing all important functions in one tool. This innovation is also cost-effective, easy-to-use and user-friendly for both beginners and experienced tailors. DMR has successfully helped vulnerable groups such as single mothers, B40 and so on.
There to close the summit was Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Dato’ Haji Mohammad Yusof bin Apdal. In his speech, he shared that MCY's journey since 2016 until now has succeeded in meeting the set targets thanks to the collaborative efforts of various parties. Until 2023, as many as 553 products, technologies and services have been successfully commercialised with a sales value exceeding RM 729,889,943.54 million.
To conclude, the Deputy Minister congratulated every start-up company and individual who participated in the MCY 2023 selection. The Deputy Minister also thanked the MCY 2024 Summit organisers, speakers, moderators, all MCY 2023 winners, as well as MRANTI as the Strategic Partner of the summit.
