Firefly, a subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), is pleased to announce the launch of its jet operations at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang (SZB), with enticing ticket sales beginning 22 July 2024 to Penang and Kota Kinabalu.

Passengers can enjoy promo fares between Subang to Penang (PEN) and Kota Kinabalu (BKI) at RM129 and RM249 all-in one-way respectively, for travel between 29 August 2024 and 6 August 2025. These fares include 10kg of check-in baggage, 7kg of carry-on baggage and free refreshments onboard.

The jet operations to Penang and Kota Kinabalu will feature daily return flights utilising Firefly’s retrofitted Boeing 737-800 aircraft, equipped with 189 seats in Economy Class, featuring ergonomic plush leather seats designed for superior, personal device holder, and USB type A and C power outlets for guests to charge their devices from the comfort of their seat.

Firefly is an established operator from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang since 2008, initially offering turbo propeller flights to seven destinations. With the introduction of jet services, Firefly continues to enhance its presence at SZB, with now over 2,100 weekly flights to 8 destinations available, combining both turbopropeller and jet services. Notably, Firefly’s commitment to connectivity includes its exclusive operations to Seletar Airport (XSP), offering a convenient and streamlined alternative to Changi Airport, ensuring a fast and seamless travel experience for customers.

Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said, “Firefly's introduction of jet operations from Subang represents a strategic enhancement to our network, complementing our existing ATR72 turboprop services and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity. We want to reassure passengers that our current ATR72 schedules will remain unaffected. This initiative highlights MAG’S commitment to expanding travel options and strengthening connectivity across our network.”

The jet operations will further complement the existing 9x daily to Penang served by the ATR72, bringing the total number of flights between Penang and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport to 10x daily.

Below is the flight schedule of the jet operations:

Recently, Firefly introduced new service of ‘FY Neighbour-Free Seat’ option on selected routes, allowing passengers to reserve up to two adjacent empty seats for added comfort. Passengers can bid on available seats through a dedicated portal up to 72 hours before flight departure.

Firefly’s refreshed menu now includes a diverse range of prebooked meals and snacks on all jet routes, such as Ginger Beef Udon, Nasi Goreng Chicken Satay and Thai Basil Chicken. Guests can save on these in-flight meals by purchasing them in advance during booking or through the "Manage My Booking" feature on Firefly’s website or mobile platform. The live chat feature is also available for any enquiries.
